A few days ago my best friend throughout high school called me to tell me that she is in hospice care and will be dying soon. She is the kindest person I have ever known. A few years ago she went to the drs and through several visits and drs. Finally was told she had cervical cancer stage one. She had the standard treatment and thought she'd lost that the cancer had spread. The reason I'm sharing this with you is to offer words of wisdom. These come from my friend. When we were in high school she she had a figure that many in school envied. Over the years (and) two babies later she'd gained around 100 lbs. As the years continued she added probably w3well over another 100 lbs. Her words were "I became a prisoner in my own body". Here is the sad part of all of this. My friend has been a victim of the one thing in today's society that it is ok to discriminate against..being obese. She didn't get check-ups because the various drs chided her about her weight and made her feel inferior. My grandma used to say "there's two ways to say something". The dr's were right in discussing the importance of loosing weight. However my friend would leave their offices in tears. She had one dr tell her that her cancer was caused because she is fat! Some friends said the same thing. So we can all Learn from this terrible death sentence. First and foremost get a pap smear once a year; but also be kind to someone who is overweight. My heart is in so much pain. The world will soon loose a beautiful person who made everyone who knew her want to be a better person. God needs another angel!
