These days, this sort of thing usually is something called "like-farming."   Basically, scammers create a Facebook page and initially it's something like a "tug-at-the-heartstrings" post (which, sickeningly, often is a stolen image of someone's child), or a fake sweepstakes or quiz, or anything to garner attention, "likes," and shares.

Remember, every time you like or share... your account (and your friends' accounts, and friends or friends, and so on) has now been linked to that "liked/shared" post/page/person.

After they amass numerous likes/shares (it's called "like-harvesting"), they then sell their page to other unscrupulous people who quickly set in to access and use the data from all the accounts for marketing things they receive a commission for, or to flood Facebook and email with spam, or send links with malware, etc.   There's a big underground market for this.

Nice to see you, @croemer!   Don't be a stranger, now, y'hear?
