I had a bit of a surprise this morning. I logged on to my account for my Discover card and there were two pending charges that weren't mine. I called Discover and they told me that they were for two gas stations (which I could tell from the names) and one was outside of Atlanta and one was just over the border in South Carolina. Both purchases made yesterday. They cancelled my card right then and said they'll issue new cards to me.
In both cases, she said an actual card was used and swiped at the gas pump. So, not only did they get my number, but they had the means to have a fake card made that works- nice...
My husband and I traveled last week and used our Discover card for gas in several places in state and out and my guess is that one of the pumps had one of those skimming devices (that's what they're called, right?) on them and that's how they got it, but who knows.
I'm not liable for the charges, but it just shocked me. I have never had a problem. You feel so violated when something like this happens.
