Re: Some Test Positive After Being Vaccinated. Here Is Why

Seems like at best these shots will just keep us out the hospital.

Starting to sink in that still no family, friends, or shopping.

Yes, I will get it when the crowds thin out.

It's my understanding that even after vaccinated a person can still carry and transmit the virus. So what that means is the vaccine protects the person who gets vaccinated but not the people around them. The usual mask wearing and SDing still needs to be done.

What I don't understand is why there aren't more Public Service Announcements on TV, radio and SM to get this info out to more of the public.  I find that there is a lot of misunderstanding as to what the vaccine can and can't do.

There are a lot of people out there who do not understand that, at no point, will getting a vaccine 100% prevent infection.

The vaccines dont really prevent illness. A person may or may not experience side effects as he/she spreads the virus to others because they think there is no need to wear a mask post-vaccine.

I read this morning that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who battled Covid and had been being tested, showing positive for the antibodies, now show NO antibodies 9 months later.

I recall that Hanks & Wilson were being tested not too long after they recovered and were already showing few antibodies. Didn’t last long for them.

I read that the new vaccines don't prevent you from getting infected but they keep you from getting very sick if you do get infected.

The person who gets the vaccine can also still get sick.

All the safety measures need to be followed even after a vaccine. You know, the safety measures that would have saved lives and flattened the curve and gotten us out in front of mutations...if everyone had followed them then.

I don’t for a minute think more people will follow safety measures after getting a vaccine than before. It is going to be interesting, hopefully not horrifyingly so, to see what happens this year.

I really think they are afraid no one would want to get the vaccine if it means no improvement in what they can do, who they can see, how, etc.

An individual who's been vaccinated still has the ability to contract coronavirus, although they're more likely to be asymptomatic. ” These efficacy rates for both vaccines means there's a “94% not getting seriously ill,” said Dr. William Schaffner, a CDC advisor and infectious disease specialist.

These efficacy rates for both vaccines means there’s a “94% not getting seriously ill,” said Dr. William Schaffner, a CDC advisor and infectious disease specialist. “That’s very very successful.”

With flu shots, he said “we don’t get anywhere close to that success. Year in and year out, it’s roughly 45% [effective].”

I hate to say it, @willdob3 , but you're probably right.

What they should do is have something in print that they give everyone with the second shot that warns them of the need to continue safe practices. Maybe they could remind them that the vaccines they've been given protect against the original strain but not the mutations. People will take care of themselves. I think it's masking for others that's the problem.

Re: Some Test Positive After Being Vaccinated. Here Is Why

[ Edited ]

This has been MY family's experience:

1) Walmart Son who tested positive for COVID and was sick on 12/18 tested positive for it 15 days afterwards. Doc said it's expected for up to 3-4 months, maybe longer. Ok then.

2) Walmart Son was place on leave 13 days ago as 4 on his team tested positive for Covid and became ill. Son was tested and tested positive. Same doc said it's to be expected; let's see how he feels. No symptoms, he feels fine. No one in our household came down with anything. He tested again today: positive.

It is believed that this is due to antibodies in his system. We would love to keep testing him (and us) to see how long the positive result lasts but we are spending $164 EACH TIME he or a family member is tested. It's not free for us and our insurance doesn't cover it.

3) In-laws back in MD have received both sets of shots. They believe they will be able to travel down here to Florida this summer. In the meantime, they have changed nothing about their routine: masks, gloves and ONLY leaving their home for medical visits. No visitors. Groceries are delivered. They are in their mid-80's.

4) Friends and former co-workers who have received both sets of shots are going out all the time with NO masks, NO gloves. They believe all is well and it's no big deal. Many work for the University of Maryland Medical Services (who arranged for ALL employees even those that work at home and have no contact jobs) to receive both sets of shots starting the week they were available. When I ask the questions mentioned in this thread, they just laugh it off and said "it's fine. It's like a flu shot. We are protected".

Face palm.

IMHO, there is SO much misinformation about this and I think it's on purpose for reasons already mentioned. Add in those who believe it was all "fake news" ..... this thing isn't going away or going to be under control for a LONG time. A LONG TIME. 1 year lost, on to the next one.... Smiley Sad
