@BlingQueen022I guess a separate topic should be for Medicare because this is about Social Security.

I come at this from a different point of view.  Like I told you, I sit and talk to people who have to let go the same Dr I'm sitting here visiting because they no longer take just Medicare.

I HATE it when I get asked, "What's your primary insurance?" and I have to say, "Medicare".  Then they immediately say, "You do have secondary insurance .... don't you?"  and I say, "Yes, I do".  I feel like saying, "Yes, I'm lucky, I can afford it".

I feel so sorry for these people who were under the impression they could live with Social Security and Medicare.  This country has not been fair to those people.

I hope someone starts another post and talks about Medicare.  I don't know enough about how people who only have Medicare get burned but I know there are people who do know.

I worked about 3 years beyond my normal retirement age so I could increase my Social Security.  It's amazing how much higher your benefit is when you work a few years longer.

True, why my husband is working till he's 70. 3 more yrs. if Lord willing he remains able.

They dropped that SS benefit , if you don't know it. He postponed drawing SS because he wanted that 8% more by deferring retirement till 70.

Present admin. poofed it last yr. Now, you don't get an incentive to keep working.

REgarding your last paragraph:  I don't believe that's true.  What was poofed was file and suspend which I think was a good decision.

My husband did the same thing but not by three years.

I'm thinking the reason folks filed and suspended is you have to file at your full retirement age. In his case, 66, and suspended drawing . First, because he didn't want to retire and 2nd you got 8% more a yr. for every yr. you didn't draw.

I think they dropped it because had something to do with both husband and wife doing that and the Gov. was afraid you might get to much money. LOL

Doesn't apply in our case, because I didn't work that much and I'm drawing now off of him.

They wanted you to keep working as long as possible , in hopes, you would die before you hit 70, now, those of us who was grandfathered in, they don't want to be able to draw it. LOL They want U to retire now.

They make the rules, then, break 'em later.

No it wasn't the present admin who ended it. It was enacted way before and was set to expire in April of this year. My neighbor waited until that time before he began to collect SS.
