I did report the call. We will see what happens.
Good Luck I hope that stops the calls you are getting!

Tell your DH thank you for me. Even though my head screams "it's a scam, it's a scam", I'm also thinking "what if there is something going on". That's exactly how they get old folks like me.

The phone calls I received, from three different numbers AND a voice mail on my cell phone were all pre recorded messages. The person said that they were Officer Catherine Richardson from the SSN department. Said they had found fradulent activity under my name. To know more information call us back on this number
404 382 8863 or 404 382 8863 (same number)
They must be crazy.
@Georgiagrama, When you receive calls, you always have the option of a quick internet search -- for the phone number(s), or for part of the voice message, etc. Often, that will result in reports that match the call and you'll have more info at hand.
As an example, I searched for "Officer Catherine Richardson from the SSN department" and in the many listings with a vast array of different phone numbers I found the actual recording on the Nomorobo site (listen here, if you want, to see if it's the one you received):
https://nomorobo.com/lookup/571-200-7179
And this is one of the report sites (obviously, as usual, they're using countless different numbers, probably changing as quickly as we can type):
https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-830-253-6052
This has been going on for so darn many years now, and the shame is that they continue because it's not only a nuisance it's also criminal, and ruinous to some people who fall prey to these horrid miscreants, and it's a lucrative scam. Makes me feel ill.

I don't answer them either but that doesn't stop them or keep them from trying. They either leave a robo message or you hear a hangup as soon as the voice mail starts. For some reason Wed. & Thurs. are prime scam call days on my phone. You block the number and they use a different one......often using a local name & number as their caller ID.
@shaggygirl and @Kachina624, They use automated software to scroll through random numbers chronologically, so it's true they'll try them all. Even if we don't answer we still have potential to be on the receiving end at some point. But if we do answer, it becomes more likely we'll get more calls because answering tells their automated system that they got a "hit" -- a working number. My understanding is that the software isn't very expensive, and it often incorporates "neighbor spoofing" to display a number with a local area code. This is making it harder for us to trust even our local calls.

That's it! That was the message. I noticed that they are using a lot of different numbers, I am assuming for different areas of the country.
I don't normally feel hate for anything other than a snake, but these people I consider lower than snakes and I do hate them for what they are trying to do.

I once got a spam call from my own phone number!!! I don't know how they did it, but it was eerie.

I know how you feel, @Georgiagrama. Just doing this quick search I ran across all the IRS scam calls (there are recordings of those, too, online)... the people involved are more despicable than anything I have language to describe.😡

It's the software, @Georgiagrama.😊 I think it's rather easy for it to pick up the receiving number and use that for the Caller ID spoofing. eta: At least we know it's not a viable call if we see our own number, right? That's the only silver lining I can find right now!😃

Yes, that's one way to look at it, but I will confess, It did disorient me for a split second.
