It is pretty common for large corporations to give only 2% raises yearly for those employees who have tenure with the company. It sounds like the SS increase is in line with what corporate America is doing.

Where I worked we had to have a perfect evaluation in order to even get the 2%.

Another reason to wait until full retirement age to collect SS if at all possible.

That means my check will be less than it is this year. I will have to start paying $39.00 a month more for my insurance coverage, minus the $22.00. My check will be $17.00 lower next year. {#emotions_dlg.mad}

So chose a different insurance.

To get equal coverage the cost wouldn't be that different.

Even my generation 53 has saved VERY little. What happened to our country. Did we the gimmies or what?

I think that because everyone knows there is social security they have a false sense of security that they need to save. It is in the back of their minds I think. That plus the fact that when you are 40, 65 seems a long way off when you are raising kids etc.

I remember one year getting a 17% raise. And that was right before I took off and missed a day when I went flew to Vail for a wild & crazy weekend . . . back when I was single and younger! That was the largest raise I recall ever earning/receiving.

My husband doesn't pay anything extra for his plan other than the standard deduction.

No, it is not! Why so many who can't afford to do so, retire at the first possible moment is beyond me. I've countless friends who retired early and they've relegated themselves to near poverty.

Different parts of the country can have entirely different plans. It also depends on if you have secondary or supplementary coverage through you former employer.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.
