Re: Social Media and the Covid Vaccine

I have seen very few posts about people getting theirs, but I'm happy for them when they do.  None have posted a pic and I know they say not to post a picture of the card itself.  It is still quite hard to get it where I live, and it is one of the more metropolitan cities in my state, so the more rural areas are in a world of hurt.  They are allowing a handful of CVS pharmacies in the less-served areas to give it now.  We're still in phase 1b which means even 65 year olds can't get it yet, but teachers are beginning to get it.

I have no vaccine envy.  I also haven't seen any posts about lots of people dying from it.  I'm sure Facebook would fact check that since they have taken to fact checking even sarcastic memes.  I'm not even inclined to get it at the moment even if it was available to me. I'm happy to let the ones who more desperately need it get it.

I understand what you’re saying.  I was able to get the vaccine in early Jan because I live in a continuing care community.  I didn't mention it to anyone because I was sensitive to the fact that it was difficult for others to get vaccinated at that time.  The only time I mentioned it was when someone wanted to know about side effects.

@Mersha ...I don't think it's inconsiderate...no different than people posting what they eat for dinner, purchase or where they go on vacation...frankly I am not interested in seeing any of those photos...but that's just me.

Sorry, but no one is "hpopping over others" to get their vaccines!  That is ridiculous!  It is first goes to whoever signs up first!  Effort wins out...NOT PRIVILEGE!

The more people that get fully vaccinated, the more it adds to the goal of general immunity.

Unfortunately it's a case of the haves and have nots, like so many other things in this country.

@Gkhm Well, there were the two women that dressed as grannies (and they were not older)...tried to get their 2nd shot, they got caught...no one can understand how they got the first shot...they  think someone on the 'inside' helped them

then, there was the couple that pretended to be in a group that was eligible for shots...they were young and not eligible, I think they owned a casino.....

people driving to Florida to get in line for the shot...all these and many more cases were in the news, so yes people are hopping over others.  I have no doubt there are many other stories...I just cannot recall them right now....I despise people that think try to jump the line.

Seems like some people have been stuck in their homes so long that they get offended by every perceived problem or change.

I think in the weeks to come, there will be more availability of the vaccine and there's a new vaccine coming out.  A single dose that only requires regular refrigeration.  That will be a big plus. I think it's ok if people post about receiving their vaccine online.  What I don't like are the people hop over others or use their connections and privilege to get the vaccine and then go on social media and brag about it.  They claim that they were offered "extra doses" but that's not true.  The wealthy, the privileged, the connected people always get special treatment.  And that is what is happening with the vaccine, it's just selfish and cruel when they brag about it.

Actually, extra doses (where I live) are given out to people at the end of a clinic, if a vial has been opened and there are doses remaining.  This has happened at the past two clinics where I've been a volunteer.

I wouldn't say the doses went to anyone wealthy or privileged.  The clinic coordinator keeps a waitlist of names of people who live nearby and would be able to get to the site quickly.

If we didn't do this, they'd be discarded.

Yes, would people rather see vaccines discarded?

Amanda Kloots, Nick Cordero's widow, posted on Instagram about getting the vaccine. She waited in her car wherever it was until all the appointments for that day were finished. The place allows that and anyone can do it.

Some people attacked her mercilessly. She's a single Mother who lost her young husband to covid. And she didn't break any rules.

I wouldn't want any vaccines discarded.

Re: Social Media and the Covid Vaccine

Today I drove 30 miles (60 round trip) in the rain to get my second COVID shot. I don't drive on the interstate so had to be in traffic and even the first time got lost.
The first shot took an hour winding in multiple lines in a convention center and then they routed me on an unfamiliar road returning. After being lost a half hour I finally made it home.
Today they were more organized and it was not as crowded, I thanked them all because they are trying to help us.

My county and State have been terrible about registration and getting vaccines to the older people. There is finally a new system and hopefully smoother.
I hope everyone who wants one is able to soon share the joy of getting a vaccine and helping fight this terrible virus!

Re: Social Media and the Covid Vaccine

I can easily promise not to wave my vaccine card on social media.  These Forums are my only foray into that  world, but I do understand their excitement because I was so relieved yesterday to become one of the lucky eligibles.  I know in my county of Florida there are still over a hundred thousand people my age working at getting onto lists.

I think it has helped me through these rough weeks when I remind myself the vaccine has dual purpose.  Sure, we all want personal protection, but the more people around me who have been vaccinated the safer I am, too.  At this point, I am the only person among the 5 who live in this building who has not been vaccinated, some once, some already twice.
