We don't get trick or treaters here but in our old neighborhood which was family oriented, all single family homes, we got tons and I did dress up. Nothing over the top. A mask, a witches hat, a clown nose. Something for the occasion.

I did one year. Never again.
I went all-out to have fun with the kids in my new neighborhood. I had candles glowing everywhere in my front room, which were visible from the street. I hung little glowing, "floating" ghosts from the tree out front (made from a light stick in a balloon, covered in cheesecloth). I think I even had spooky music playing. I dressed as a witch and positioned myself outside, walking slowly from the driveway to the front porch and back.
The first visitor arrived around dusk, a girl of around 10-12, walking alone. As she got to my driveway, I said "Come here, my pretty." She froze in her tracks, shaking her head NO!.
Apparently, she was not familiar with the Wizard of Oz and was not about to come closer. Either that or someone had lectured her a little too sternly about safety and then sent her out to walk the neighborhood alone. ???
I decided to just stand inside the door and dole out candy. The overall attitude was Just Give Me the Candy, Lady. Took all the fun out of it for me.

@faeriemoon Good one about the makeup. I won't be wearing any.
I live in the Hill East section of Capitol Hill in DC in a rental two story town house. I'm just over the line from the section that has the historic restrictions for renovations and the like so my landlord was able to do a very nice remodeling without emptying his bank account.
And, appropriately, my address adds up to--for me--lucky 13.
Before I retired and moved here two years ago the highest number of trick or treaters I had one year was 175 in Connecticut! No idea how many will show here--but I'm ready and looking forward to it!

Cute idea. Fun for the kids.

@aroc3435 I'm in CT; it must be an east coast thing. Not looking better for tonight either. Where did you live in CT? (You don't have to say if you don't want.) I'm about half way between Hartford and New Haven.

@faeriemoon Small world, isn't it. I lived in Branford on the shoreline for many years and after my children were grown I moved to New Haven to be closer to work.
Retired to DC to be closer to my son and daughter and my three little grandsons.

@aroc3435 Oh wow! We're often in your old neck of the woods. Small world for sure!

I'll be wearing my black QF shirt with blingy ghosts on the front. I'll either have a small, witch-type fascinator on my head, or...if it's raining, I'll put on my Nats red cap with the curly W!!!!

They cancelled trick-or-treating here due to the weather. They rescheduled it for Saturday afternoon.
