I do generally have it nearby, as people sometimes need to contact me as well as me needing them, so it can be in a pocket, wristlet, clutch, purse - whatever suits the moment.  

 

I have a relatively small iPhone - an oldie.

Samsung and others use gorilla glass or something similar. There's no need for a screen protector.
