There are a lot of reasons for people to stay.  It's a personal choice.  The governor has stated a million times that authorities will come and get you and put you somewhere if you want out now.

While they did take the choice out of the hands of people like the homeless who may have mental challenges, they can't go door to door and arrest people for wanting to stay in their homes.

At this point, they are opening more shelters, but there are more people than shelter space at this time.  My father's wife put in a request for a senior shelter several days ago and was not able to get in so she is staying.

@Zhills, did you leave your house yet? Lee and Collier are opening more shelters: Germaine Arena has opened and pets are allowed. Also Alico Arena has opened. People must bring their own bedding and supplies at both shelters.

The winds are picking up here....I hope the power stays on through the night.

We will beat this @Zhills!

You are strong-

I hope the Keys are left after they are hit.  I am glad I don't live in Florida. Irma has turned so Miami will not get a direct hit.  Miami is in trouble anyway with flooding when it rains.  I read an article on the flooding in Miami months ago and the fact that the ocean is rising.  Let's pray that there is not complete devastation in areas directly hit by Irma.
