Re: So glad I'm retired.....

The other nurse was totally unreasonable and childish. I would not want her working on my case.

I agree.  I think she was sure he'd just tell her to go and he'd  take her place.  She might have made plans before she even asked him.  Hence the childish behavior.

It's a shame...sounds like the woman has mental problems.

He owed her nothing.  She needs to get a grip and grow up.  How childish of her to have that behavior.  Good for your husband.

There are two sides to every story and we are only getting one here.

Why is he there on a vacation day? That was not allowed when I worked.

I think he was setting himself up for problems, he probably should have been escorted out.

Re: So glad I'm retired.....

Wow, the wife is naturally biased and heard only his side and everyone jumps all over the other nurse.

He knows the workload is crazy and could have responded with a little compassion and then ended the conversation.

He could have planned ahead and taken journals home the prior day or read them online.

It was a day off. Stay home and spend time with his wife/family.  I'm sure he could find good things to do at home. Days off are important for mental and physical health...and we all know nurses are overworked.

I say this as someone who worked 60+ hours a week in the office for years. I took work home too.

I gave up my Type A style when I retired and it's been magical for my physical and mental health as well as relationships with friends and family.

If only I could go back in time and set some boundaries for myself.

I also did this same job.  I would love to hear this story from perspective of the other nurse involved
