Who flushes feminine products down the toilet. Geeze.

Everyone I know. Everyone I've ever known. We had a discussion about it at work just last month. No one I know has a septic tank, and everyone with mains sewerage flushes those things. The thought of putting them anywhere else is rather "third world" to us.

(I'm talking tampons, not pads.)

Exactly! I always flushed my tampons down the loo.

unless there is a sign that says not to, i have always flushed tampons down the toilet......and we have a septic system.....no problems.

Yikes! Its a known fact that you NEVER are to flush tampons down the toilet if you have a septic system! I would think any septic owner would know that.

well, having been a septic tank owner for many years with no problems other than having it regularly cleaned out every 1-2 years i would say i am safe at this point.

Well considering three to five years is sufficient that is probably why you have never had any problems. Think of the money you have wasted having it pumped every one to two years. Is flushing your tampons worth all of that?

Not to get personal but tampons have changed. There are super-heavy-duty-extra-absorbent tampons with plastic applicators that are most definitely not suitable for flushing. These are not environment friendly and should be thrown in the trash.

Me too. But we don't have a septic system.

I don't use super absorbent or heavy duty and I don't flush the applicator. I never flush Kleenex. I never flush baby wipes or facial cleansing wipes nor would I flush pads or panty liners.

I've been doing this in our house since I was a teenager and I'm now 46 years old. We've never had a clog.
