Forget about Antarctica...

I wonder nowadays what % of high school graduates in the US even know the 50 stares, where they are and at minimum, the capitol of each. I knew all of them by 3rd/4th grade...

@Susan Louise  I'm not sure if I learned them that young, but no matter when it was, it has served me well.

I had someone tell me today, that the reason my bill was 500.00 instead of the 400.00 they had quoted me was because of tax. They do not add tax on to the quotes. I told her tax shouldn't be 100.00 on 400.00.

It's just gonna get worse, makes me wanna be a prepper.

@happycat  Good idea. Hope you are prepared. I am.

I'm not as prepared as the preppers on youtube. But I am more prepared than I was a year agoSmiley Happy

Today on "Family Feud" Steve Harvey asked a young lady to name an animal starting with the letter "g."

She said "jaguar."

In truth, there was a lot I didn’t know when I graduated from HS. My K-12 education was just the beginning.

Right now, I’m more concerned with young folks showing respect for others, treating others with compassion and understanding the importance of being able to delay gratification.

It's been proven that people in the U.S. pay the least attention to world geography.

@Kalli If they are as dumb as some of these bunnies are they will have to delay gratification when they become adults.

And as far as schools, all we hear is how underpaid teachers are and how overburdened.  If that's the case somebody should be worrying about finding out why our kids aren't learning in school.  WHAT is holding them back and burdening teachers at the same time?

Something is very very wrong here!   It simply doesn't add up does it?

Speaking of Antarctica, there was a recent article I read that said when the ice calved, there were fish and plants that never before saw sunlight.  Also, the article which was very superficial made me want more information such as if these fish and plants were ancient sea animals not found anywhere else and now could venture out....how that would affect other sea creatures and impact the ecosystem. Curious minds want to know!

This sounds like what I told a persnickety lady who called me one day (you know the one who never has a speck of dust in her house and her kids look like the model for a magazine and you have to know she is on drugs because she is too perfect to be real because her house looks like House Beautiful and she looks like she wrote the book on how to style oneself and do their own hair to suit the outfit, cooks 3 perfectly beautiful and tasty, nonetheless healthy meals per day) and asked me what is a scant teaspoon of salt? She said I know what a teaspoon is and what salt is.. (she laughed) and said but what is a scant?  I told her to go down to the Ace Hardware and buy one.  She told me she was cooking and asked if I had one, to which I told her I did not.  She got in her vehicle with her children (hair all combed and wearing bows in their beautiful blond curls) and when she came back, she looked angry.  She never spoke to me again.  I did not care.  In addition to being stuck up, she was a big gossip.

Actually, I have felt guilty about that for years and have asked forgiveness in my later years.  I know that is not very Christian-like to do something like that but it was fun at the moment.

@beach-mom

When our younger son was in h.s. he was involed with

AFS (American Field Service), and we hosted a student from Chile for a year.

He came home really upset one day:

When he told a student he was from Chile, that student laughed and said, "Where's that, in Mexico?!"
