I, too, am skeeved out by hotel rooms. If I had a choice I would rather stay in my own RV. But, what I absolutely could not tolerate would be living in an unsafe area. I'd sooner live in a studio apartment in a safe, upscale neighborhood.

To suggest "camp" sounds like a lot of transient people coming and going. I'm not very worldly, but are there "places" in PA like in FL where all your neighbors are snowbirds, too?

I don't think HH lives in an unsafe area but where she does her laundry is unsafe. Might be wrong though. Who knows how far she has to travel to do laundry. In my area, campgrounds are all out of the cities and you'd have to travel quite a distance to get to a Laundromat, grocery store, bank, etc.

I have been told though by several people we know who do camp, including our friends who just bought the camper, that you definitely get your "camping weirdos" and always want to have curtains/shades down at night and the camper locked up.

Can't you put a stackable W&D into your home, HH?

The plan is for us to take off for AZ right after Xmas and return the first week of April.

I've seen RV's that are gorgeous. But to me they're still cramped spaces.

Not having a washer/dryer and other amenities would be a deal breaker for me.

I have been watching this show on FYI called "Tiny House Nation": I am intrigued, but for the life of me, I can't fathom cramming two adults and two teenagers in a 396 square. Ft. House. I would take a camper or RV any day. We live in Florida year round, and we see lots of campers and RVs. The difference between a camper and an RV is that a camper is towed-but they can be quite luxurious.....but I do have to agree with a number of posters who think it's time to find another camp ground. I'm not quite ready to head south yet, but will be in a few weeks when we get a nearly 6 week break in the home hockey schedule. I can't say that I'm really a snowbird as I don't stay for months at a time. I go for varying lengths of time, almost entirely when it's cold up north and will often run home for a long weekend. A friend of mine talked me into going down for a week in Sept a couple of years ago and I thought I was going to melt. Wayyyyy too hot and humid. I'm right on the Gulf, not more than 75 feet from the water and there is something very soothing and hypnotic about sitting on my patio or balcony, listening to and watching the water.

Wow, what a bunch of whiners. Today's campers are better housing than a significant percentage of the world's population lives in daily. What a bunch of divas that "couldn't live like that". OP's "camper" is really a misuse of the word. It is quite nice as she has described it, and even her older, smaller one was as well. These types of living arrangements are located throughout the states in this area. Many are very rural and very beautiful, they sit in the woods, usually along a river or creek, and filled with people who live there all summer, much like the cottages on the lakes or the beach houses some folks have, just usually less expensive. There are all the amenities in each trailer, and many are like small apartments, complete with satellite TV, internet, air conditioning, fully equipped kitchens, baths, and some parks have nice laundry facilities, not exactly living a third world existence.

The laundromat that she frequents seems to be in a bad area, but I think that could be easily remedied by traveling a different direction and going to another one, even if it is a longer drive. I would hope for the expense of having a place at this campground it is not located in the area where she had to do laundry, or I'd be moving it.

LOL. Have no fear. Most of the posts stating that they would be afraid to live in an unsafe area or disagreed with living in a camper because it wouldn't be comfortable have been removed.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Next year at just this time I want to be on the road to California. DH retires in August. I get so very sick every fall here in Wisconsin and I haven't been home in 15 years and I just can't wait.

I'm excited for you, kaybee! You're almost homeSmiley Happy

I have a laundro mat by my house and it attracts all kinds of people. The area she is in is a very safe town with hardly no crime.
