To discover that your neighbor was running a exotic reptile business from his home and had hundreds of snakes including deadly specimens in his house and garage??? I just read a story about a man in Calif who was doing this. Of course it was against the local,ordinances but as long as he wasn't caught who would know? I know I would be totally freaked by this.

Santa Ana is about 30 minutes North of me. The story was sad....I am not a big fan of snakes, but I felt so sorry for those poor fellas. And to make matters worse, neighbors have found snake skins in and around their houses....that would freak me out The guy is a teacher (scary). Sounds like he suffered from depression after his mom died and started hoarding in order to cope.

MickD, Santa Ana is about 30 miles South of me. I was raised in Arizona so snakes don't really scare me but that house was really awful. Obviously the guy has some serious mental problems. The fact that he is a 6th grade teacher in Newport is even scarier.

I happen to like snakes..........I've caught them (garter snakes and gopher snakes) for the boys when they were little, that we kept as pets, I'm not afraid of snakes........having said that.......I wouldn't want to live near someone who kept poisonous snakes..........snakes can get free, take it from me, very easily.......when they do they look for a comfortable secluded space..........corner of a closet, behind a desk, under clothes.........places where the unsuspecting could easily get hit................................raven

Momof4~ Yah, I think he is a PE teacher. I agree very scary...I wouldn't want a depressed teacher teaching my child....

That's why they have laws against people keeping exotic species. What if the guy was keeping a lion or tiger in a flimsy cage?

Kachina ~ I think it's legal here to breed snakes..I don't know what types though. The guy was a snake breeder though before snake hoarder. It's too bad that the authorities didn't check into this guy when it was reported earlier (4-5 months ago). I hate to see any being suffer....and adopt, adopt, adopt, not breed!

I saw this story earlier today. They said it was causing the whole neighborhood STINK. To the point they couldn't open their windows. YIKES.
