@Oznell @OKPrincess checking in from Nova Scotia. It seems like the entire Province is on fire. There is a fire very near our City (the capital city of the Province) and very close to me in a residential section. 800 hectares in a densely populated area. The evacuation zone grows daily. Last count 200 homes complete loss. 20,000 evacuated.
In the southwestern part of the Province, much more rural, 20,000 hectares are burning. Here an additional 200 homes gone.
The fire near the capital is in a bedroom community, some farmland in the area. Fifty horses were set free to run as there was no way to evacuate them in the half hour evacuation notice given. The good news is that they have all been found with only one serious injury which is a miracle. People could not get home to rescue their pets. So many sad stories of pets lost. Wildlife is en masse moving away from the fire with herds of deer at highway's edge. Very dangerous.
We have fire support, air water bombers, helicopters with water buckets and ground support from the four Atlantic Provinces and I understand this afternoon the US is sending assistance as well.
We have never seen anything like this. The air is smoke laden, The weather is hot and we have had little snow this past winter and rain at historically low levels. A perfect storm.
The kindness of our communities who are opening Air Bnb's, farms, camping sites, homes to take in those people and animals affected is truly magnificent. Last night the emergency alert warning system went off three times as new evacuations are ordered. We are safe for the time being and so thankful. Say a prayer for those affected. We are hoping Friday brings much needed rain. In the meantime, we are experiencing very high winds and extremely hot temps for this time of year. The population is on edge and the mood is very tense. And yes, in the middle of this, you find idiots wanting to have a campfire.
Amazingly, no loss of human life so far. All for now. LM

@Sugipine So what is it about Colarado that draws people in or repels others?

My sisters live in Buffalo NY and both have said the skies over Lake Erie as the sun sets is very strange .... not sure which fire, but smoke in the air is always very disconcerting.
During last year's fires we had air coming into Los Angeles .... a smoky, cloudy haze ... and a couple times little pieces of ash were landing everywhere. Creepy, and sad.

Jobs are good here but the cost of living is high.

I saw a report that the fires are expected to worsen tomorrow. Other provinces and the U.S. will be sending help. They need rain more than anything else.

Although winds are becoming more variable, our air quality alert has been extended to midnight tomorrow.
On top of that, over 3,000 acres are now burning in Bass River State Forest.

There is now a wildfire in Burlington County NJ which is not far from me. More smoke that won't be good for my alleriges and asthma. I haven't needed the rescue inhaler yet but DH and the cat would not sleep with me last night due to all my coughing.
