I agree, not sure why anyone would want Alexa or anything like that in their home.

Re: Smart home devices can be hacked using a laser beam

I'm a fuddy duddy senior citizen. I hate all these modern day electronic devices. I don't have a smart phone. Don't want one or need one. Alexa devices? No thanks. All this hacking stuff has gotten way out of hand.

I promise to remind myself every day that I am strong, courageous, and resilient.

Re: Smart home devices can be hacked using a laser beam

Didn't know about the laser beam but did know that those devices could be hacked. I don't own them and probably would not purchase for my home. The same could be said for cable and directv and our cellphones with all of those apps.

Just the other day I read an article about the whatsapp possibly being used to spy on people. The issue with the devices talking to the children was also disturbing and I think people need to be more vigilant about the type of devices they have in their homes.

If snyone wants to spy on me - well they would be bored to  death.

I don’t pay for Alexa but I did purchase 2 fire sticks and they came with Alexa. You have to push the mic button on the remote in order to access it and I don’t use it.

And for my home cameras, I bought blink as there is no monthly fee. They don’t communicate with me and that’s perfectly fine.

Couldn't you easily defeat this by putting your alexa somewhere that a laser beamed by someone outside couldn't reach the microphone?

Yes. That’s what the article says.
