After I bought my smart TV I was told they are spied on. Is that true? Does anyone know about smart TV's? Thank you in advance.

Hi Julie, I am scared of this TV and think on payday I will take it back and exchange it for something else. One that is not smart, Ha!

Some brands and/or models are said to store and pass on information to the manufacturer much like your computer. Smart TV sets after all are computers, many with Quad Core Processors which are better than many computer processors when it comes to speed. I have no reason to not believe these "computer tv sets" cannot store information on a hard drive just like a computer. If you want to consider that "spying", you might want to also consider your computer/smart phone, tablet and other devices the same.
I did hear that some of the TV sets that have the option of a "camera", much like using a web cam, can be used to watch a room/person or whatever if they are left on and activated. Can they be activated remotely by someone else? Probably, but the ones I have seen can be put in a position where they are covered or will be pointed at the ceiling or other positions other than looking at you.
Now I don't know these as facts, but I do know that anything that can operate like one's computer, also has the capability to function much like a computer in many aspects. Just like new cars, new electronic devices have memories on them and can feed a whole lot of information to the manufacturers and anyone they may decide to pass that info on for whatever reason.

I understand that some voice recognition TVs use a third party translator to feed back the instructions to the TV. But really this pales to what the phone, cable/satellite, or internet providers must know about us. Have one of those little toll transponders on your dash? You better believe someone know where you drive. Use ITunes? Oh wow, they could sue me for my taste in music. I am waiting for a floss that will report back to the dentist. There isn't much you can hide anymore.

Bobbisue, all of your activity is monitored and there are cameras everywhere. You must be very careful.

In general regarding gadgets of all kinds with cameras, etc.: Just don't dress/undress in front of it. Also, I wouldn't keep one in the bedroom. Who knows who is selling the videos for $$$$. Etc., etc.

It's true. Even when the tv is off (cable connected still). Also, phones etc. XBox Live One read on that. Same with the Kinect device. If your are concerned, put a sheet/etc. over the tv at night.

Many people put tape on it or leave their phones out of the room etc, when they are doing things.
Recording is done as well. FB, (I am sure other sites) even if you don't hit reply that info is stored.
