[Big Sister]

Happened on Friday, 6/30, on the #405 freeway close to John Wayne Orange County Airport.  Pilot and wife injured and will both need back surgeries.   Strangers came to their aid and pulled them from the burning plane.  Freeway was closed down for over five hours.

It's a miracle no vehicles on the freeway were hit by the plane.  And what a traffic nightmare it must have been in Southern CA.

I used to drive home past that spot every day. If you saw video of that plane going down and bursting into full flame you'd never believe anyone in it would have lived. Amazing. And no one on the ground hurt. He was only a few yards short of the runway - he almost made it.

A LA County Fire captain happened to be on the fwy.  The plane was enroute back to John Waybe airport when it clipped his car and crashed on the fwy.  He was able to get the wife then the pilot out of the plane and onto the median safely.  Lucky for them he happened to on fwy at that time.

ValuSkr, yes it was a traffic nightmare.  There were several vehicles that were damaged when the plane came down, but no one was seriously hurt and I don't think any vehicle was totaled.

Wow, we were just on that freeway yesterday morning at about 11 AM going to LAX.
