This is a child who broke a school rule for some reason none of us know for certain. I hope a school counselor can help allay whatever concerns she had that made her think a knife of any size would be a good idea. But please, let us not cast aspersions on her about anything or accuse her family. Whatever was the child's reason, it's sad that the idea of violence runs through such young minds at all. She could fear someone at the school and have been afraid to speak up. Kids do dumb things, she'll learn something from this and that's good.

She is an A/B student, high IG. Extremely popular. I cannot look inside her brain. She lives in Kentucky, I am in Florida. I do have friends who can help with this issue. I never imagined her being slammed. I thought we could get help/advice. She is a child, fave movie Frozen, dream - go to Disney. Oh well, how people can condemn her She is a child. .

No one said anything negative about your great niece. Aren’t her parents handling this? Surely they have asked her about it.

Right now she has one active Parent who is asking for prayers.

This issue with a knife in a bag at school is very serious. Although age 12 is a pubescent, she is still very impressionable. She is old enough to be accountable for her actions. This age is very cliquey and peer pressure to fit in can be a struggle.
She is not a baby-she made a conscience decision to bring and conceal this weapon.
Thank goodness it was found before someone was hurt.
Hope she can get counseling and learn from her mistake.

With all due respect @Fiero Woman you stated that you want prayers and advice for mom but you aren't giving us anything to work with. You have barely told us anything about your great-niece beyond her age, carries a knife, is afraid to go to school without "protection" and got caught and suspended.
The post after post after post about rural life and the posts about you and your accomplishments does nothing to help us offer advice that might be useful to your great-niece's mother.
You are obviously upset, frustrated and venting. While understandable taking it out on those that want to offer advice or suggestions is only going to fuel your anger and frustration not get the information you seek.
If you sincerely want prayers and ideas perhaps stepping back and taking a break from posting until you are in better control of your emotions will get you what you are seeking. Right now you are alienating posters that would like to help or at least offer support.

Marp: You are very wise. So heart wrenching for the whole family.
