@Fiero Womanwrote:Chrystaltree- This is a child, a small girl. She watches Disney Movies and doesn't even know what is happening in the outside world. Country family raised in the church. She won't be the only one afraid of going to school. She is liked in school and has no school issued. We are having a lot of threats in Florida of shootings. She needs counseling. She is very smart and does watch the news.
Hopefully for that little girl, her parents have a better handle on this that you do.

She must not be too "country" if she's carrying and using a make-up bag at age 12. My parent would have had a fit if I'd tried using make-up at age 12.

This story is fishy to say the least.
Yup, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that something is going on.

@Fiero Woman, has it been determined what specifically about going to school she is afraid of? Your statement that "She admitted she was afraid to go to school without something to protect herself." does not tie her fear to any one (or more thing) and especially does not tie it to the local school shooting in January nor the Florida shooting.
More than anything else the question of what she is specifically afraid of needs to be answered before your great-niece can get the most appropriate help. If she is truly afraid because of the shootings the help needed would be different than if she is afraid of a student, teacher or something else.
It would help us understand if we knew when she started carrying the knife to school and under what circumstances was it discovered and brought to the attention school authorities.

I don't know what you are talking about. This is a real situation. A real child who is freightened. I was wanting prayers and advice for Mom, no that this isn't real. I am an retired officer of the court and I guarantee it is true. You guys afraid to admit this could happen anywhere. Get a life, it could be your family.

The boy who did the shootings in Kentucky, where three of her relatives attended, was a student. Why should she fear any student. This is a rural school with no police on the grounds.

This school is 35 miles from the closest hospital or police department. Like I said rural.

When I say I am a country girl I mean it and I ain't from Kentucky, lived there, from West Virginia and those Kentucky folk are very citified compared to us. Live all over the world, Europe 14 years and it just goes on. However, the country comes back.

I am going to do my best to help this baby - I loved her as a baby. I still have friends from my past life and we will see what happens. She may have to come to me in Florida

The first thing you should have done is ask her what she is afraid of. Why didn’t you? Her parents must know, right? She is supposedly in trouble at school. Hopefully they are dealing directly with the problem.
