Small Tornado Hits Los Angeles

Good grief {#emotions_dlg.scared}

“We saw the winds twirl up in the air 20 to 30 feet high,” Vernon said. “It took trees, anything that was in its way. It was trees, debris, wood, trash cans — it was all being whirled up in the wind by this tornado.”

How are all you Southern CA people doing with this storm? It's left behind a lot of damage up here.

Re: Small Tornado Hits Los Angeles

Hi Noel First of all how are you holding down with the weather up north? Here in Los Angeles it depends which area/neighborhood/town you live in. I had lots of rain. I didn't venture out until there was a break in the clouds but others struggled with their commutes and the roads. There were some damages - a mudslide with debris in the Camarillo area - took out some homes. Some trees fell here and there and there are still more things that the news will report later this evening. No tornado in my area thankfully.

Whoa is right {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}

I didn't know CA got tornadoes until recently. Before this one, I've only read where they've hit in an unpopulated area or a farm where there was luckily just land, no buildings or crops. Luckily, those two were small.

The pictures of homes in Camarillo Springs are scary -- rocks and boulders right up to the roof in a few. Amazingly, no injuries were reported.

It is unusual for California to get tornadoes, but it's not unheard of. Thankfully, they are usually a CAT 0 or at most a CAT 1.

Hi LR!

We've done well! Some water did get into the garage and storage area but it was just a couple of puddles which SH swept out right away. I'm sure we need the gutters cleaned now, though. A lot of areas have been hit hard with flooding, and a Safeway roof caved in. Apparently a Costco was also flooded.

Schools were shut down here and in many areas.

I'm glad you're OK Smile

Oh, my gosh! What caused that, tansy? Mudslides?

Yes, mudslides from hills behind the houses.

Oh, oh. That happens here, also. Very scary.
