@Effie54, they don't automatically renew at a higher rate if you've cancelled before the renewal date. Just like with every subscription service.

While their lowest rate is $4.99 a month there is a music royalty fee of a dollar. No getting around that.

The subscription is not just for a vehicle but can also be used through their app. I usually only listen to two channels, Radio Classics old time radio shows channel 148, and On Broadway channel 69. There are so many channels that range over a variety of taste. Goodness...the sports channels alone makes my head spin.

I used to spend hours in my car, now very rarely yet to me it's worth it.

@Etoile308  They wouldn't give me the rate of $4.99 a month. The woman kept tracking on fee after fee. I've tried using their app, with no success. I could never get it to work on my iPad. It wasn't worth the hassle. Customer service was much better with Sirius years ago.

@goldensrbest - Congratulations on your new car!

It's interesting how you hear the old saying, "The minute you drive your new car off the lot it starts depreciating in value." And yet a lot of us spend a lot of time in our cars, driving near and far.

I've had Sirius as long as I can remember. DH started with XM, but now they have merged. We give it to each of our children as a Christmas gift. And we have it in our home. I haven't listened to "regular" radio in forever, and I don't miss the commercials!

The one thing is, and I have called about this, I love my car but it's a little older. I can't get some of the stations they've moved around, including my favorite Road Trip Radio. Yacht Rock is one of my favorites too. I like it when they spotlight artists. I also listen to "oldies" and music by the decades. They really do offer good choices.

For the 4 cars and home system we pay about $70/month.

I think you will like it!  Smiley Happy

Re: Sirus radio

[ Edited ]

@goldensrbest i do have it. Ive been a subscriber for years as radio in my area is horrible. Ialso love the talk radio shows, the theme stations, christmas at holidats etc. I pay about $27 or so a month. Ive had it for over a dacade and i think it started back then at $18-20.

I think I have a regular plan, not sure its been forever since i signed in online

With having a tight budget these days youd think i would cancel but NOPE, id rather do without something else. Even these days when im in my car tops only 20-30 min at a time. I like the shows i listen to during my drive and i love having other music channels programmed when others are in my car.

EDITED TO ADD: After reading what others are paying, im currently on the phone with SiriusXM,  she is stumbling a bit, not knowing what to say when I ask why after over a decade am I paying so much more than others on a nessage board talking about the subject...she looking to see how since i am "trying to manage my expenses" she is researching what the best possible rate I can get....bingo. im going to pay for 12 months for $149 ( i asked for the $135 someone else here is paying but she says with taxes and "fees" this is the price she can give me. I will have to call and renew in a year or it will jump up back to the $314 i was paying, $26.12 monthly x 12 months,

I cant thank you all enough for your transparent info. I never knew i was over paying ...its like how Comcast Cable runs their business.

@goldensrbest THANK YOU  for starting this thread.  I just saved $13.66 a month because you did.

I love my Sirius radio, and downloaded the app so that I can stream through my Bose at home.  I always call to get a lower rate, it's so common now that they have a special number to press on your phone to get a lower rate without having to haggle with a representative and threaten to cancel.  Once I retire and no longer have the commute, and have a lower income, I will probably cancel completely.

Some of my favorite channels are The Message (Christian music), Watercolors (Smooth Jazz), Mosaic, Classic Vinyl, 80s, and Yacht Rock.

Oh boy, I have to check this out since my rate just went back up.

Another option within many newer cars is just subscribe to their audio on your phone ( rather than each car radio ( and someone mentioned she had it in her camper). In my new Toyota Crown as well as my son's 2024 Toyota Corolla you just pop your phone in designated slot and use that as your source for radio and Google GPS. These new cars have so many buttons and gadgets ( not needed imho) but they sure are fun to use.

we have it in three cars...... an all access plan.

i can listen to all stations on my phone, computer, laptop, tablet, and alexa devices. i think it is called a platinum plan.

some of you are paying dirt cheap prices, but i am wondering if you only have it in your car with limited channels?

i wouldnt be without it anymore. my favorite channels are 60s, 70s, the bridge, political channel talk, yacht rock, pitbull, the blend, andy cohen, the holiday channels, howard stern, the groove, and some sports channels.

@goldensrbest  We had Sirius for a while years ago.  They kept jacking the price up.  We would get their "offers" to sign up again only to call and find all the hidden fees and we were right back to paying what we were.  I now just use my iPhone and Apple Music.  I have made playlists or I can just pick genres, radio podcasts etc.  I would never go back to paying for Sirius.  My husband has an android phone so he uses his iPod among other things.  Why pay a service when I have music available on my phone? I also can play Amazon music or I Heart Radio.  Will never go back to Sirius too many other choices.  To me they were overrated and overpriced when I can access the same content on my phone. 😊

They provide it with new cars and this is how they get your hooked!  I would never have purchased this but after having it for 3 months, I decided I had to have it.  I hate regular radio - honestly, it's so bad and it's just full of awful ads, just like t.v.!  What others have said, after your free time is over, let it expire and wait for a little bit and then whatever they offer you price-wise, bargain back and forth with them and you will get a better price!  My husband is hooked on the Beatles channel and I am hooked on the watercolors channel, which is soft jazz.
