Hi everyone. I have been absent for a while since I am busy with work and life and all the rest. As many of you know, I have been looking to leave my job for various reasons the overarching one being that I do not make enough money. I have applied elsewhere, gone on interviews, and even received a job offer I declined because it was part-time. Anyway, a position opened at my company, in my own department and after much thinking and consulting with friends, I decided to apply. Let me preface by saying that they promote in ways that make little to know sense to me at least. Our department is and has been 75-80% female when it comes to the "underlings" which I am a part of. When it comes to supervisory roles, there are currently 4 males, and 2 females. One of these females is leaving, hence the opening. Do you really think that they will have 5 male supervisors and 1 female supervisor if they decide on a male candidate? They are looking to hire internally so I almost certain it will be between me and one of my male coworkers. He is a great guy and will do the job just fine. I have been there longer and like him have great performance evaluations and can do the job. What are your thoughts? Have noticed this in your company or ones you have worked for in the past. TIA

Are you asking if you should apply? Of course.... If you'd like the position and the added responsibility.

I already applied and interviewed for the position.

The job I recently retired from rewarded male employees over female employees. The department that I worked in was mostly female (only 3-4 males and over 100 females) and it was the female bosses who were discrimating against other females. One boss even told me that she paid the males more because they had to support their families ?????
It does happen often even though it is illegal and it's difficult to prove.
Best wishes and good luck to you. I hope you get the promotion.

I take it you want thoughts on your chances of getting the position. That you would be replacing a woman and that there is only one other is in your favor so unless they can't see you as a supervisor or don't want to lose the male applicant, I expect you will be their choice.

They make more than you do because they are "Directors" and you're an "Assistant Director". If you don't like that, vote with your feet and find a job where you're a "Director". Then, you'll probably make as much as other "Directors".

If you don't like your job because you don't make "enough money" (and only you know what's "enough"), then find a job in house or elsewhere that pays you what you believe is "enough money". Why even ask the question?
