The bridges are neither long nor high, compared to others. They are, however, VERY narrow and 4 lanes with no divider in the middle. Just stay on the right and you'll be fine. I live here and do that.
Something about a car going the other directions 6" off my door just plain gets on my nerves!!!
I don't remember where you are coming FROM.....but the Cape is not and never has been "on the way to MAINE" !!!
Don't come on a Friday, Sat. or Sun. It's just a wait to go over the bridge all day into the evening....several miles and sooo annoying. ON and OFF....Takes the fun out of it!
Same with leaving, by the way. It's still tourist season....and full. FULL. The snowbirds don't leave until late Oct. Fall is a 'senior season' here....as opposed families/kids. Weekends are always busy. Rates go down in OCT.
If you come and really like it I'll sell you my house. I want to leave here soooooo bad! and go north of Boston near my grandkids. Do let me know about that!!

I think if you are going to Maine and are going to see the coast, you don't need to go to the Cape. (Sorry, Cape dwellers). I think Maine has it all.
The Outer Cape in Fall is wonderful (if you don't need to eat in restaurants .. all closed LOL) , but the tourist Cape in Summer is a horror. Sunny days: too many people on beach. Rainy days: too many people on the roads going "shopping". All days: too many people trying to get on or off the Cape.
I live in Massachusetts (South Shore) and have only been to the Cape 3 times in 40 years. LOVE Maine and the beaches and cliffs and rugged shoreline much better.

My vote is for Maine as well! The Piscataqua River Bridge is a breeze. If you head the shore route (Rt.1) and Downeast you need to go over the Bucksport Bridge, which is fairly new and a huge improvement over the old bridge. Talk about white-knuckling it - the old bridge.
Oh if you go through Wiscasset there is a low bridge, but stop at Red's Eats (can't miss it) for one of the best Lobsta Rolls. Well worth it!

You can't get to the Cape without crossing a bridge. Bourne or Sagamore, you have to cross a bridge. And...the Cape is not on your way to Maine, regardless of what route you take.

Is there a bridge near your house you can practice on? Just drive back and forth until it doesn't bother you anymore. If you absolutely can't do it, I'd be checking on medication.
