Have seen no commercials in our area yet for handguns. I certainly do not hope these are being promoted as Holiday gifts. The fact, as someone else said, that a company is trying to promote sales because of the terroristic attacks is sort of repulsive to me.
Our local news has jumped on the bandwagon though, by broadcasting the increases in applications for gun carry permits...again they hype things and that puts ideas in peoples' heads. Like, "I gotta go out and get my gun permit before they limit how many they issue." That happened here years back.
I had a permit in the past to carry a concealed weapon, that I let expire. I never purchased a weapon. But I am thinking of applying again and purchasing a handgun. My decision is not based on terror attacks, but rather the increase in crime and break ins that has migrated from the big cities now to the rural areas.
Even if the weapon never leaves my house, I will still have the documentation that it is registered and I am permitted.

But we have to see the commercials about a blue pill for men, jellies and lotions and people's satisfied reactions after use, and condoms, and even bedroom toys at certain times of the night.
But heaven forbid we see a commercial about a firearm.

Think about how much more distatesful it would be if the blue pill, jellies, lotions, condoms, toys and climaxes killed 90 people a day.

I don't consider people who lawfully carry, follow the laws required for gun free zones, follow the laws required for securing guns, to be gun crazies. However, there are many, many, many irresponsible gun owners among us. Some of them are mentally ill, are violent, are abusers, are TERRORISTS. THAT'S who I'm concerned about.
And the same thing can be said about many, many, many, car owners who drive under the influence, and drug users who party with their minor children, and people with a medicine cabinet full of prescribed medicines that they don't properly monitor when kids are in the house, etc. etc. etc. As many or more lives lost under these types of scenarios, but you don't see the agitated posts about them.

You certainly can if you are properly trained, and practice with it. I have firearm instructors in my family, and people who carry should train continually, and the good ones do.

There is no comparison. Guns are manufactured and sold to kill. There are about as many guns in this country that every citizen could have one. We have lax laws. These guns are in the hands of crazies. We are not concerned about the home grown hot head with an arsenal who lives down the street, but we're all tizzied up over some bombed out families looking for refuge. God forbid, one of them may be a terrorist sneaking in.
The article talks about what it takes to make it here. The process is too long and complicated. If a terrorist wants to come in, they can just get on a plane and come as a tourist. It's easier.

Not like it hasn't been said here before, but guns don't kill. People do.
And in the last year, how many people confined in buildings shot down might have been saved had there been just one or two competent gun owners carrying?
And how many of these shooters might not even attempt what they've done, if they knew everywhere they went, someone was equipped and ready to stop their attention getting scheme?

I know it was during the day, I think it was last Saturday? (Because my husband was home.)
I generally watch home, food and comedy shows so it must have been one of those channels. My first guess would have been sporting channel, but I clearly remember it was not.

I live in NY state so I assume those ads won't appear in strict gun control states. My feeling is the more guns that are out there, the more potential there is for killing. More toddlers died last year from guns than police in the line of duty. That is a hideous statistic, but I digress. That new Geico ad where a kid who never grew up shows up at a high school reunion and sings and insults. It is so obnoxious that if I did have a gun I'd......

Don't care who or what is doing the killing. 90 people are dead every day in gun related incidents. There's no reason every Tom ****** and Harry should be allowed to own a gun. It's your right to own one within your ability to follow the laws established around them. The laws that allow 2,000 terrorists to legally purchase guns in this country need to change. The laws that allow the mentally ill, the domestic abuser, the formerly institutionalized, the criminal and the terrorist to legally obtain guns need to change. Don't you agree?
