I know the new slang term with the teens for awhile now is the word "sick" my teens use it all the time and it drives me crazy. I think back to my growing up in the 80's and words like 'totally' 'like' 'tubular' 'awesome' 'gag me with a spoon' were the words we used in highschool and growing up in California and the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High just added to the 'Valley Speak'. Thank God not all those words are still around but some are and I still use them.
Shawn uses the term 'sick' constantly and I think who is her audience? I know she is a stepmom to 2 teen boys but really does she have to use that word? I also noticed her picking up a bad habit of stuttering. Between the 'thats sick' and the 'and and and and' the remote cannot be changed fast enough.
I am truly sick of 'sick' lol

IMO Shawn tries too hard to look cool and "impress" others with how hip she is. She does represent the youngest age demographic among all the hosts, but enough is enough.
BTW, thanks for the reminder of the "valley speak" -- I remember those days well.

I'm glad you brought this up. There are 2 other hosts (one female and one male) who do the stuttering thing and I can't stand it.

When the middleaged people (like Shawn) start using the slang word you have to know it's already passe'.

So true. When you hear 40 something or beyond use a slang, hip, or happeing term or phrase, it most likely went out with the young crowd a couple of years ago.

Yes, my teens say "sick" as a positive description. It too will pass, as they all do.

I grew up in the Valley of So. CA. Only those in certain crowds spoke like that. Most of the teens back in the 70's/80's were average teens and wanted to be taken seriously. Sure there were one or two words, but the moviewith Sean Penn was greatly exagerrated and not a model of who lived here.
