Longish story: semi-feral cat had first litter of 2 kittens on our back porch. We fixed up a big plastic dog "carrier" for them. Had to take kittens to vet yesterday--bad eye infections and coughs. We had been treating them with erythromycin eye ointment, both were eating and had coughs. Yesterday morning, one was literally cool to the touch. took them to vet, who said to continue with eye treatment, keep bad kitty warm. Very sick kitten died in my arms. Better one was put back with mom, and was seen nursing. this morning, he was missing from his shelter. Too small to get out of porch by himself. Mom cat led me into garden, but no kitten found. Would another cat have taken the little one? Bed was nearly dragged entirely out of carrier. Any ideas would be welcome. We try very hard to care for these cats and couldn't catch mom to have her spayed--will keep trying. Thank you very much.
