However, these guys were young adults when the murders happened, not helpless children. Instead of murdering their parents, what kept them from packing their bags and just walking out the door? They were plenty old enough to find a cop and report their father or even hire an attorney and file a civil suit against him. They had alternatives.
Instead, by killing both mom and dad, they were assured to inherit the whole estate without half going to mom.
These two are inherently evil and need to serve life sentences without parole. They are also great actors.
Again, please don't judge them if this is something you know nothing about. If this has never happened to you, you do not know what you would do. I don't appreciate the fact that you don't believe them. If this had happened to you or a member of your family you might think differently.

@Estellee wrote:I don't understand why they killed their mother. I'm not sure they should be released.
Because she KNEW what their father was doing to the boys and didn't do anything about it. Isn't a mother supposed to protect their children ... especially from sexual abuse?
Apparently Kitty's siblings had a hunch this was going on, but I'm not clear exactly how much they knew at that time.
Let's face it, a LOT of "family secrets" never saw the light of day outside families .... whether it was domestic violence, sexual abuse, incest, etc. Police didn't always believe the victims, and just dismissed the "complaints". It still happens today and notifying the police doesn't always have a good outcome.

@songbird wrote:Wow how fortunes change! The way things are going, not only will they be released, but they'll demand and get restitution. Then they can buy all the planes, boats they want. So true that French saying....The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Wow. Where are you getting this from? Is this just speculation or do you personally know the family?
Personally, I don't see what's wrong with the whole case and evidence being reviewed. Surely you must realize the courts don't always get the sentencing right. Sometimes even innocent people spend decades in jail!
Honestly, I just don't see how them being released means they want to buy a bunch of planes and boats.

Jose Menendez sexually abused other boys, as well, not just his sons. You don't think this is relevant to their case?

The idea that an abused child, spouse or, any other type of abuse could have just left. Especially if the abuse is long standing. The thought of leaving is terrifying because you know he, or she, will find you and then your life is really in danger. If the law does arrest them, they will soon be released, maybe even had the weapon returned to the perp. Then your life is seriously in danger. A young man who has been physically, verbally and sexually abused may very well feel that there is no way this will every end for them. You can't just go to a cop and tell them about the abuse and a child may very well just be returned to the abuser if he does. So no, you can't always "just leave". Especially a child.
Wow .... I see many assumptions here that "they should have just told the police, and it would all be sorted out".
Yeah, right.
Back then .... the police often didn't believe the victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse.
Look at how many posts here don't even give them the benefit of the doubt. They automatically "know" the boys were lying.
Pathetic.

The brothers tried even before the trial make money book deals, movies. Groupie one of the brothers was working at the time with ended up stealing his book had published.
They lost public support. People saw them for the evil greedy monsters they really are will always be. No mercy.
When someone shows you who they really are believe them. No mercy! They should have received the DP!

We will never know will we if he sexually abused other boys because he is dead and cannot defend himself. Why didn't this come up in their two trials?

Well twelve jurors convicted them of murder. They knew the boys were lying and they had evidence.

From what I watched on the documentary the first trial was a hung jury when they brought up the abuse. Before the second trial started, the judge told the defense attorney that the abuse can't be brought up at all in this trial. It was because the judge was the same judge for the OJ Simpson trial that was before this one,and people were upset that he didn't get a conviction and needed one for this trial. That was also in the documentary.

Premeditated murders. The behavior after the murders speaks volumes on the true motivation always was money, follow the money. Two spoiled brats. Handed the best schools money could buy. Both lazy, unlikely they would ever achieve success in life. Hope they never see freedom.
