@on the bay @Caligurll @Greeneyedlady21
Your assumption is dismissive and rude.
It's a cheap shot meant to invalidate another's opinion.
I'm finding others were brought up in families very different from mine and my views reflect that difference, but are no less valid than yours.

I get what you are saying about honoring a committment, I just find it against common sense and find it hard to believe that you or anyone would think it ok to drive into a hurricane watch because that isn't putting a value on the lives who made that committment!
And anything to the contrary, I just can't believe is a well thought out
"opinion."
And to think otherwise I think is dismissive and rude to the people whos lives are put into danger.

And anyway, beach-mom, gave a nice update, so no need to continue "opinions" or arguments anymore, me included!
Happy to hear you are home safe,
That's what's important.

Your not so subtle comment about how others were brought up is rude.
If you want to travel into a hurricane to attend a wedding, go right ahead. But sorry, you have no right to impugn the integrity of the OP and her daughter for choosing not to do that.
And that's what you have done throughout this entire thread-holier than thou dismissive judging.
Not to mention that you even made critical comments about the storm not being that bad so the OP and her daughter should go. RI and CT were hit badly, so if they had to drive through those states forget it.

Not everyone was brought up by Storm Chasers.

@Porcelain Is it just me or does that man chasing storms look just like Gomer Pyle?

You have to consider the source.
She is a bitter, bitter woman, who rarely ever had anything nice to say.
I pity her.
It must be awful to go through life with such a sour attitude towards everyone and everything.
She thinks that she knows better than the mayor who is telling everyone to stay home, knows better than NOAA and the National Weather Service, and thinks that everyone who is fleeing the area, are fools for doing so.

@San Antonio Gal , @Kachina624 , @Mindy D and everyone else- I waited to answer until I knew what actually happened.
Background: The bride is one of DD's closest friends. They have known each other since middle school and spent lots of time together. Once they all graduated and went to college they scattered. The bride went to college in Massachusetts and stayed. The groom is from there. The wedding was originally scheduled for June 2020, with a second try for August 2020, thinking things would be better. Of course they weren't, so this weekend was selected.
DD was the only bridesmaid not in that area (New England). It's about a 7-hr. drive in good weather.
All of her other friends here were telling her not to go. That's when I first posted here.
We had no idea what the hurricane was going to do at the time, but we knew it didn't look good. DH couldn't go anyway, but said we might be driving right into a hurricane. I have been through a hurricane before. I didn't want to go through another one.
Meanwhile DD was talking to her friend, who said she was going ahead with the wedding.
DD talked to the hotel Thursday night. They told her she could cancel by noon Saturday. Saturday morning what we saw on The Weather Channel didn't look promising. We were concerned about winds, flooding, and power outages.
So DD called her friend. She is a sweet girl so I knew she would understand, and she did. DD canceled the hotel. They told her they had two other rooms reserved for the wedding canceled, but of course we don't know where the parties who reserved them are from.
We have had The Weather Channel on non-stop! As it turned out it looked like Boston would not have been affected that much. But we would have hit some obstacles coming home.
As of noon today the wedding at 5 was on. It was supposed to be an outside wedding and reception, so they probably moved indoors. I haven't seen DD, but I'm sure she won't bother her friend! She'll probably talk to her in a day or two.
I know she is sad, and I am too. I'm picturing the two of them, most of the time with others, watching a movie here in their pajamas. I last saw her the summer of 2019 when she was home for a visit.
We made our decision based on what we thought was safest at the time. Thanks again for all of your advice! ![]()

@beach-mom Wise move. I'm sure the consensus would be that you and DD did the right thing.
