@TY wrote:The stores with the poorest selection of inventory after re-opening is hands down Winners and Winners/Homesense in Canada and that is reflected in the TJX latest earnings report. You can't sell what you don't have and bare walls and stores with massive shortages for more than 2 months after re-opening shows how ill-prepared TJX has been to deal with a pandemic. They have never sold inventory via the internet in Canada and stopped selling in the U.S. via the internet when everything closed down in March. They have very little to pick from even 3 months after re-opening in Canada. It's easier to shop elsewhere that is more reliable and better stocked.
When I was at our TJ Maxx, the clerk mentioned that they had only had like two trucks in the couple of months they had been back open, I got a similar story at Kohls as well. One of them (can't remember which one now) said the warehouse that supplies them is in Michigan, and that state was locked down longer and tighter than many others, hence no product.
I really can't imagine what this holiday season is going to look like in brick and mortar stores. The inventory and shipping is already a mess online, especially places like here, so I can imagine anyone that doesn't shop months in advance, is going to be left with holes in their plans and lists.

@pitdakota wrote:I have long considered shopping to be a chore so I ordered many things online well before this pandemic. At this time going to the grocery is the only shopping I do. So for me, I don't miss shopping and don't have any perspective about the type, quanity, or quality of products out there.
But @Mominohio, since you specifically mentioned jeans I will pass on that I have seen multiple articles and news segments that manufacturers of jeans have really cut down on production due to really low demand. Reportedly it is because sales of yoga pants, etc. have gone through the roof with the shutdown and post shutdown with sales of jeans plummeting. Therefore some are even speculating that jeans will not be as available as they once were for an extended period of time. Just passing that along for what it is worth.
Thanks for that heads up. Not something I had considered, but certainly does make sense.
I luckily bought my five year plus supply of jeans late last year (I really hate clothes shopping so I find something that works, and I buy enough for several years or more! lol. Now shopping for the home etc. that I love!) But my mom has put it off and put it off, and we are going to have to do something for her at some point. She is going out so very rarely (I think she has been in a public space maybe three times since mid March) that I'm inclined to not bring it up anymore, and let her ride this out with what she has unless she brings it up.

Right know I am glad I have multiples of items because shopping is such a hastle. There are, however, a few things that are wearing out (athletic walking shoes) but I dread that shopping trip! On line has its limits. Maybe after kids in school.
I am one who found shopping an enjoyable activity and miss that opportunity. I feel for your need to purchase your mom's items. So hard for individuals who have not been out to even imagine. I still let my stuff hibernate in my car and wipe down refrigerated items. So time -consuming.
Some day maybe there will be some brick and mortar stores left that I will be able r I stroll through and dream.

Our lives are trying to be controlled BY THE VIRUS. You just may have to give up your rights if you are on a ventilator. Just stay safe.

The day when I was sitting at my desk and it was announced on our local news sites that our County Commissioner Judge and our Mayor were going to have a Joint Press Conference that afternoon then it definitely became a huge hassle. As soon as I read that notice I closed the office and hit The Walmart. At least I have saved money through all this. Even with most businesses back in operation I just do not shop for shopping sake. Only if I have to.

There's not much I can't find online; recently bought a 55" t. v. from Amazon (plus all my clothes and 90% of my shoes).

I have discovered how much I don't need and really don't even want that I thought I did. I like the freedom and the more time I have to read and reflect, to relax, and to have fewer bills.
I pretty much have no desire to return to "shopping."

@Mominohio, go ahead and vent - we all need to do that sometimes...for me it's because I get frustrated. Our way of life has changed dramatically since this virus invaded our lives, and while we try to adust there are still times or situations that just plain frustrate us!
I still make a trip to my local grocery store once a week or so - it's good for me to get out, although I've learned that WM frustrates me - too big, too many people, and parking is always an issue. I prefer one of my local grocers even though the bargains aren't always as good - I don't care because bargain shopping is not my priority now. DH has health issues and shouldn't be out and about, so it's up to me. I rely on Walgreen's for prescriptions and sometimes household/food items in a pinch. I used to enjoy going to one of the local malls, but that's in the past for now. If I need an item of clothes, I look online from my favorite stores. I pray that some of the B&M stores survive.
Our lives have changed, but I believe this virus will be controlled, and I firmly believe that things will get better. In the meantime, we rely on each other to listen to our frustrations and have a bit of empathy, as we figure out different ways to do our shopping - after all, we're all in this together.

When I got the first stimulus check, I wanted to buy a few things I hadn;t the money for before. But I ended up shopping online instead. I love browsing TJMaxx and Ross as well as the Dollar Tree. A new Target opened in our old Shopko space. I wear a mask to grocery shop, and a Macey's took over the old Fresh Market store, so the shelves are fully stocked now. But like you, I can't browse for hours in a mask, so I just don;t fun shop anymore. Online and only when I have extra money, not often these days.
