Re: Shopping at Trader Joes (Tips)

I have one close to me and I too just don't think it's all that special?

I do buy their slivered almonds as I use them for salads and casseroles and their price is the best around.

They carry interesting cheeses and lots of processed frozen items.  Their orange chicken is good but honestly the one from Sam's Club is just as good and a better price. I do love their frozen rice medley, microwavable rice that comes in a purple box. It's handy when I want to make a quick meal.

Their snacks are just....ok? Like so often I'll see on social media a list of "must haves" for TJ's and I'll try them and think meh? They are OK but not great. And they are just as processed as regular store boxed snacks that I can get on a better sale at regular stores.

Re: Shopping at Trader Joes (Tips)

@monicakm  Another vote for the Potstickers.  I always have a bag or two in the freezer.

If you eat cereal My sister asys they occasionally have a good deal on " Heratige flakes".    She gets their tortilla rounds. Short ingredient list.

It's fun to look at their frozen section.

Some stores Are bigger than others.

I think they used to have a seasonal circular that listed the special things they were bringing in just for the season. maybe it'll be online.

I'd go just to stock up on the potstickers.

Re: Shopping at Trader Joes (Tips)

We have one a mile from us and they are always pretty busy.

Great selection of well-priced seasonings, combo's, etc.

Large nut and seeds selections.  Take and go meals are very good, especially if you don't cook much.  In the refrigerated section.  Also various pastas, Indian and Mexican foods, etc.

Bakery items are nice and always fresh.  Lots of organic selections throughout the store.  Just browse and have a good time.

I admit, when it first opened I thought, hmmm....what's all the appeal.  Now I know.  It's a nice "specialty" type smaller environment shopping experience.  Everyone is friendly and helpful.  Even the other customers.

The fresh flower and potted flowers, etc. are wonderful.  And they even have pet and personal products.  I say give it a go if you can.

No, I don't work for them.  ha! Cat LOL

Re: Shopping at Trader Joes (Tips)

I love it.  The food, the prices, the clerks.  Even the register never wrong.

I stopped shopping at Raleys, Safeway.  The register always has a few items at Raley's that are on sale, but you have to watch the register because it does not ring up sale price.  The clerks are rude.

Not at my TJ.  I love Thanksgiving and Christmas at TJ with all the different special foods for the Holidays.

I also find that the prices are so much lower than the above name stores.

Shopping is a pleasure for me when I go to TJ.

I am alone and so lt's easy for me to get the food for one or even two.

If you have a family to cook for, not so much IMO.

@TheWanderingOne   Shirt expiration dates is because they use minimal if any preservatives in their food.  It's my favorite store.  I only shop there, except for some bulk items.  I only eat chicken fush or plant based foods abd I akways find what I need

Re: Shopping at Trader Joes (Tips)

@Icegoddess   some of their items do get discontinued because sometimes the companies they get that particular item from can't supply it anymore at a fair price or at all. Traders is unique in that they source their foods from specialty suppliers.  They keep their prices lower because they make deals with the companies.  That's why their nane is on most of their products.   They do sell a lot of ready to eat foods but they are not highly processed nor are they full of preservatives.  I've been shopping at Traders for more than 40 years.  They always strive for the best possible.  Many chain groceries get their foods from the same vendors but charge more
