Re: Shopping at Trader Joes (Tips)

I shop at TJ's sometimes. They have a great selection of frozen foods, but I don't buy most of them because of the sodium content.

I like their version of Cheerios, much cheaper than the name brand. The jasmine rice and pumpkin pancake mix is great. I used to buy their spinach mushroom quiche, but it's been discontinued.

The employees are very helpful and friendly and that's so refreshing these days.

@monicakm My favorite items include the Kringle (an oval shape prepared pastry made in Wisconsin), the flavor this month is pumpkin. They freeze well, can be refrozen and are delicious for brunch. My GDs love the almond flavor at Christmas. Also, the sandwich sliced sourdough bread is excellent for toast. Price for their plain mini-bagel is half of cost in any other grocery for same quantity. Also, a peanut dressing found in refrigerated salad section is tasty on rice, chicken, beef. Greeting cards are $.99.

We also love the Kringles !!!

don't go on weekends. be prepared for kids with mini shopping carts and parents that think they are adorable, even when the aisles are clogged. JMO

I've convinced DH to (sometime soon) take a trip to Trader Joes.  I can't stand seeing and hearing about how great it is any longer! It's an hour and fifteen minutes to the nearest store.  Are some days better than others?  What do you like best from TJs?  Anything you can share about the store would be mucho appreciated it Smiley Happy

@monicakm   We have a Trader Joe's about 15 minutes away from us.   I was there only once.  Frankly, I don't understand all the hype about it.    I didn't think it was anything special.

Re: Shopping at Trader Joes (Tips)

I get things like bottled spices/herbs there. Also cocoa powder. They have combos of seasonings too, that I like. I also like their produce--got 3 different kinds of mushrooms for soup. The best--is their dark choc  peanut butter cups--so much better thatn Reeces---by a mile. DD get her pumpkin tea. Take your time to scope it out--there are always lots of people there, but check -out goes very fast. Ours is next to a Whole foods store too. Can't remember what else we get.--we try to go once a month as we take an Uber or bus there.

@monicakm  I love TJ's. I travelled 45 minutes to get there for years, now we have one 15 minutes away. Either my husband or I are there at least twice a week. The most crowded times are weekends and after work. So much to love, yogurt, produce, cheese, wine, orange chicken, orange cranberry scones, beauty items, dog biscuits, holiday items, advent calendars, seasonal items, coffee, tea, juice, frozen section, butternut squash mac& cheese, brown sugar oat creamer, hot chocolate, ice cream, cookies, pies, nuts, raisins, sunblock, I could go on and on....take the trip and see if it's right for you. I find the prices are lower than most other stores in my area. The staff is pleasant and helpful, and the store is clean and always well-stocked.

I like their prepared soups and burritos.

I go through one jar of the Hatch Valley Salsa each week.   I like their enchilada sauce.  I like their chicken pesto wraps.

Their frozen Thai vegan Green Curry Sauce w Rice is my comfort food staple.

Wow, thanks for all the photos! I'm getting excited about going to TJ's 😊  I know we won't go often even if we love the store because of how far it is but it will make a nice day trip.

Well I just discovered I made a mistake about the closest location. I thought I read there was a Trader Joe's in Greenville Texas. I was wrong, it's in Dallas on Greenville Avenue. Greenville Avenue is not for the faint of heart.  And it certainly isn't for a small town 60 something year old couple.  Also discovered there are 2 in upper North Dallas on Preston Road where we lived when we first got married 45 years ago. That's in a bougie part of the city so I'm sure the Trader Joe's will be exceptional.  Wow, if I can actually talk DH into driving up there it will be so neat to see how much has changed in 45 years. My daughter and granddaughter were just there last weekend on that same road buying granddaughter a prom dress. I used to buy her mother's prom dresses at the same store on Preston.  So I guess I was there about 25 years ago, dress shopping. Cannot believe I used to drive in that crazy traffic! Thanks again everyone. I appreciate all of you.

You're welcome!  I think that is a great idea to take a trip down memory lane and typically better neighborhoods have bigger TJ's.  Some of their stores can be pretty small and you need as you are driving far to have a wide selection.

I'm excited to see when you go what you think Smiley Happy

Re: Shopping at Trader Joes (Tips)

We go to TJ once or twice a month.  We love their flowers and plants but they go fast.  I joined a TJ facebook page to find suggestions on items to try.  We really like the pot stickers, both chicken and pork, the frozen lasagne, the mini dark chocolate peanut butter cups.  Last Christmas one of our clients brought in white chocolate peppermint bark for Christmas.  My spouse doesn't expecially care for white chocolate or peppermint, but loved it, so we're on the lookout for that this year.  TJ is just a pleasant shopping experience.  Everyone is so kind and so efficient.
