Re: Shooting at UNC Charlotte

@Drythe, I was making one point about the analogy and nothing else. I was not opining about gun control because I don't want to get into trouble here.

So true.  Just sitting there in the safe, or in the factory, they don't do any damage at all.

@Drythe

Yep, and the same thing can be said about motor vehicles when parked or in the factory.

I don’t disagree with your point at all.

Just as I think that some people are incapable of managing the responsibility of gun ownership, some are not capable of the responsibility attached to owning a car.

@Drythe, I do disagree with his statment. It is an apple/orange analogy.

Cars are made for transportation; guns are made to injure, maim, or kill.

I said the exact same thing and QVCCindy blocked my statement.

No, we don't need cars to live, at least, not in your larger cities they don't.

In your larger cities (N.Y., S.F. - Bay Area, etc) they have public transportation such as the subway, busses, ferries, etc, and those people are living just fine without owning a car.

Re: Shooting at UNC Charlotte

What people need to keep in mind is the rational, stable, person can pass a background check today, and commit a crime next week.

I think people want an easy pat answer, and putting a label of "crazy" on all shooters, puts a nice bow on a problem for them, and makes them feel better, because it's "those crazies" that's the problem, when the reality is, the next shooter could be someone that they know.

@Anonymous032819, I think that you might be taking the poster's car comment a bit literally. I'm sure that she knows that if cars were erased from our life, we would continue to be alive.

@Anonymous032819

People do not 'pass' background checks.

They are reviews of any former convictions, and personal references, traffic convictions, etc.  In other words, into a person's past.  It is a matter of what is found there.

And a person can pass all of that information that's in their background, legally buy the gun, and still go on a shooting spree.

A person perhaps, but not every person.  Some can not. That is the point.

So I guess that it's just better to do nothing, since you won't be able to stop them all.

Re: Shooting at UNC Charlotte

People can try to rationalize and justify it from now until doomsday. How many mass shootings equal doomsday by the way? I think we passed that.

Look into her eyes and try to justify it. Lost her heroic Mother who saved a Rabbi. Look into the eyes of the parents of the young hero at UNC.
