Re: Shelters for the Home Owner

I never heard of it. I don't know anyone who has it or something like it.

Some dummy on the street behind us and down a few house had a bomb.tornado shelter installed underground in his backyard. Somehow, it has stopped all the drainage from all the yards to the stormwater drains, so now when it rains everyones back yards hold a ton of water. When we had the flood, the shelter filled up. Doesn't sound to "safe" to me. I'm like Qwacker, I'd like an above ground safe room.

You mean like "duck and cover?"

Who's the genius who came up with that idea??? {#emotions_dlg.lol}

Hey, and I always thought I went to a grade school with magic desks that, once you knelt beneath them, they would protect you from nuclear attack!!!!

Wow, remember way back then, when we only had to worry about the Russians????

LOL! What a total gimmick, but some people will buy anything. I love that they advertise how it will help keep your family safe in times of natural disasters, financial collapses, and world wars. {#emotions_dlg.lol}

I have not seen the commercial aired on my television, thankfully, but I did watch the commercial on Youtube...it's good for a giggle. Like they say, there is a sucker born every minute. If you go to their website, there is a statement that starts with "Due to the overwhelming response from the public, we have reached our quota of sales for 2014....." It's only February, doesn't exactly instill confidence. Maybe they are made in China and have to be shipped here? {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I live in tornado alley, think I will stick with our storm cellar. As for protecting us from financial collapses, if a NYC high-rise isn't safe, not sure how a Titan shelter will do any good.

I've seen it on several channels, most recently local ABC during the earlier morning hours. (I'm in the metro-DC area….not exactly "tornado alley" here, though we do have rare occurrences.)

(Edited to correct channel)

Re: Shelters for the Home Owner

I'm outside DC by about an hour and get the DC channels as our local ones and noticed these ads began around Christmas. I'm guessing they may appeal to the doomsday preppers (seen a couple of those shows on NatGeo channel I think).

It's an interesting ad but I often wonder - you are underground in your shelter and at some point run out of food. If its a real doomsday scenario, no one will be manning the stores, looting will have taken everything from the shelves, trucks will no longer deliver things, anyway so then what? I also like the "for as low as $129 per month" and wonder, hmmm, for how many years is that??

Re: Shelters for the Home Owner

If you live in a tornado prone area of course you need a shelter - otherwise i thinkthey are rather a huge waste of money. If there ever was a nuclear attack on the USA I would not want to be one of the ones who survive.

Re: Shelters for the Home Owner

I just * gasp * googled the shelter and it seems the owner of Titan shelters is a scam artist.

Alfred Demola aka Lou Russo of NJ operated several businesses that have ripped off lots of people.

He sure must have a lot of money to be running TV ads, even when their alleged "quota" for the year has already been met.
