Sheldrick Trust Elephants taking a break

These elephants are in the "second" stage past the nursery to  Ithumba, a national Park in Kenya, protected by guards and workers.  Here they do what they love to do.  Swimming and Taking dust/mud baths.  Elephants have extremely sensitive skin.  The have their own  beauty regimen.

Thank you for sharing this @songbird , it is heartwarming!

The David Sheldrick Trust is an incredibly successful "orphanage" and rehab. I love seeing these beautiful creatures being treated in a humane and dignified way.

Re: Sheldrick Trust Elephants taking a break

The idea behind the Trust was to repopulate the eleaphant population.  It's done one elephant at a time. This sets them apart from the other elephant charities.  They are constantly protecting them by road and by air.  Also by educating the human population that elephants should not harmed.  The trust was set up by a British family. I think they've put back over 600 elephants.  The orphans merge easily with the wild herds.  Most of the former elephants come back to visit.  And they bring along the wild elephants.  Not just elephants by the way.  They have in their care baby Rhinos, Zebras and cape buffalo.  One Rhino who is blind will always stay with them.  But the rest are introduced back in the wild. .
