I'm so glad I've missed those. I get really tired of hearing "they're on TV, they put themselves out there so they have to be prepared to hear things they don't like". Really? What gives anyone the right to say cruel or nasty things about another human being? I don't care who they are. They are people, with real feelings, just like the rest of us.
I wish them lighter hearts in the days ahead, but I know they have to grieve first. My other wish for them is that they be allowed to do it as privately and peacefully as possible.
Very well said, Reese. I've never bought the argument that somehow public figures should expect the cruelty they get just because they chose a public career. People should be ashamed, especially publishing their criticisms where the hosts and their families can read them.
So very well said. I don't know if it's worse now because of the relative anonymity on the internet, but the propensity toward gossip and cruel remarks is loathsome. While it always says more about the character of the person writing the remarks, it still must be hurtful to those who are being talked about.
I'm not wild about platitudes, but the adage is true that "just because we can doesn't mean we should."
My heart goes out to Shawn and Joe. I've been there, and while no two experiences are exactly the same I think I can empathize.
