Only Three???

There's lots of good, it's just the media likes to Over Emphasize the bad and listen to the whiners.

1. Weather is sunny and warm with warmer summers.

2.  Various cultures arrive and stay - it's very international

3. We have beach, city, hills, desert, snow in hills in winter.

@sfnative I am using the color green to signify that I am with you on your area having cool green to beautifully view.

It is very possible that we will move from our area to a less populated spot once our "kids" settle down... they may move back to TX... in which case we would move futher away from a "cityville" and more toward a "countryville" spot.

Oh, and I forgot... we have lots of these here:Lucy Lu boots.jpeg

I am with you, only shops!!!  My husband's employment brought  us here 30 yrs ago.  We don't have kids, no family here (although we have lots of friends) but we will go home the very minute he can retire!!!

The summers are brutal, there are no pro or college sports here and basically nothing cultural.  I hate the man-made lakes and did I say summers are brutal??

For those who don't know, I am in the Tulsa area now and from the Detroit area!!!

redsingsgal,

I can so relate to your situation, though we only had to spend 6 years in Tulsa.  Husband took a 10 year contract that ended up being 6 years.  It was just horrid.  I agreed with everything you've said.  If you're not greatly invested time-wise into your church and its various activities or family, then you're going to be winging it.

I'll never forget the two of us going out for a swim in our pool at 11 p.m., when the temp was still 85 and the humidity 90%.

Honestly, had I been born in Tulsa, I'm sure I'd have lots of wonderful things to say about it.  However, it ended up being more like the black hole of death (we moved there from San Francisco).  I hope your husband's retirement can be seen as the light at the end of the tunnel and that you can get back to Michigan soon.

OP Here,

Thanks to everyone for sharing!  It's been a wonderful experience to get a sense of you through your city, town or rural area, many areas that I've not been able to experience - - -yet!

We are one booming metropolis as the capital city. Tons of fabulous diverse eateries & food trucks. We have a world reknown zoo as well. We are a very giving city in the realm of charity work.

Low taxes and a nice public library.
