Anyone here been through the severe weather crossing the state today? If so, how bad was it?
I just saw my local weather and there is a red thick, jagged swath on the radar slowly sinking across the state - expecting to hit my way anywhere between 8pm and 2 am.
My trees have been bouncing around in the wind all afternoon.
Bad weather makes me nervous

It won't make it as far south as I am until after 10 PM, but the NBC affliate out of Grand Rapids has sure ratcheted up the hype machine. It's too bad, because they do it all the time and they either scare the life out of people or turn them off so they don't watch at all. It's beyond me why they just can't give the facts. I plan to enjoy a generous glass of wine and sleep through it.

Birdmama, I feel you. When I lived in New Orleans, those tornado and hurricane warnings send me into high anxiety mode. Even the heavy downpours and strong winds we would get would turn into a tropical storm. I become a nervous wreck. I hope your weather in Michigan is less severe than you might anticipate. Stay calm.

My son lives in Traverse City, Michigan and right now high winds, rain, hail and no electricity. He had just returned fom the Upper Peninsula. Mackinac Bridge was closed earlier today to 65 mph winds!

Yep, if they closed the bridge, the wind is howling. I'm in SE Michigan so I have a few hours before it blows through.

Central Lower MI. (near Mt. Pleasant/Midland area) - we have dark skies, strong wind, thunder and lighting. Power is still on...

I visited friends in metro Detroit this weekend and had no idea I would be traveling through very nasty weather to get home today. I live about 50 minutes east of Traverse City and drove up I-75. I went through two very nasty storms (one in the Saginaw area and one just north of Houghton Lake and south of Roscommon). Heavy rain, strong winds and hail in each storm and near zero visibility. I was relieved to finally make it home safely and get my car unloaded and in the garage. Less than 10 minutes later my area was hit with a very bad storm (worse than either of the ones I drove through - and that's saying a lot) with straight line winds, very heavy rain and large hail. Trees and power lines are down all over the county. Main roads, including I-75, are shut down because of the downed trees.
I hope I did this okay - I've never posted before but have been reading the forums for years.

You did just fine and I appreciate that one of your first posts was in response to my weather inquiry.
