Venus and Serena played an excellent game tonight!  No one tanked.  How utterly disgusting that so many people believe that Venus would take or allow Serena to win. Clearly, those that think this way know nothing about their professionalism and honesty as well as their willingness to view each other as worthy opponents when playing against the other.  Further, all of the former professional tennis players that now serve as analysts and commentators were unanimous in their assessments that each sister played to win and played in an excellent and competitive manner.

For those that "can't stand" Serena or think that the two sisters have received too much media coverage, then explain why you would bother to watch the match?  Why can't you celebrate the tremendous caliber of tennis of which both sisters are capable.  Very few athletes are able to dominate their sport in the manner that Serena has done, especially at her age.  Venus and Serena are keeping the American presence alive in international tennis ranks.

I celebrate them for all they have accomplished on and off the field.  They are women whose fame is justifiably merited based solely on their achievements and not family connections, sexualized personas, or cheating.  They are true stars and a credit to humanity!  I hope that Selena makes sports history; and if she does, it will be on the basis of merit!

I do not think Venus tanked.  Serena is just a better tennis player.

I like both of them. It is apparent how much they love each other.

Re: Serena v Venus @ the Open

Just FYI I didn't watch the match.   And just for another FYI I played tennis for years as did my entire family.   One of my sons coaches tennis so yes I do know a bit about the game.    I do however watch almost every other match which is where I heard the constant hype over the Williams match.    I do not like Serena and haven't since her tirade against the Chinese referee..   I am neutral on Venus but still stand by what I said about the possibility of her letting her sister win.   Maybe she did maybe she didn't we will never know.     Not sure why I have to explain this to you but there you have it!!     Have a nice day and let's enjoy the rest of the tournament.   Peace!!

I do not think Venus had to let Serena win.  As others have said, it's been years since they've been on the same level.   To me, it looked more like Serena let Venus be competitive early on in the match.

I watched part of the match. Those two women are supreme athletes and gave it their all. The only thing they did differently is they didn't visibly demonstrate when one or the other got the point. It was a matter of sibling respect.  They quietly reacted without the gestures. With the year Serena is having, I think it would have been a huge surprise if Venus had beaten Serena. She was 23rd ranked as opposed to Serena's number 1 rank going into the match. I hope Serena takes it all. She is such a hard working player and a fierce competitor. I love  and admire both of the Williams sisters .

...lovely message Serena left her sister on Instagram and the U.S.A article about the match was 'spot on.'

Venus hasn't been a consistent match for Serena in a long time.  Had she miraculously upset her sister's chance to sweep the circuit, I do not think Daddy Williams would have been happy.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,If either of them didn't play their best that would have made  Mr. Williams  unhappy.

To allege that either would throw a match is really disgusting.
