Well if Serera had a despicable; emotional, hysterical meltdown that was inexcusable and a poor representation of motherhood and womanhood and all athletes across the globe.....

Then the next time a baseball manager gets ejected for going off on an ump, I’m going to say he’s a no-good, dirty rotten, abusive husband and father going through a midlife crisis and probably has a mistress on the side.

???  This isn't about her being a powerful woman .... it's about her totally unprofessional behavior.

 Tinkrb144: To clarify I'm referring to her athletic ability. She is the most powerful/dominant women player ever. Her serve is "the weapon" along with unrelenting determination. Google if you have doubts.

Okay, the outburst was ugly.  There is no denying that, plus it ruined the sweet moment of victory of the young competitor.

BUT:

1.  New mom who had post-partum problems, right?  Hormones are probably still raging all over the place.

2.  She returns to an arena she has dominated for ages and feels the keenest desire to triumph again. That sort of pressure is something additional to make her endocrine system go crazy.  It is hard enough to return to the office after giving birth, but you can "lie low" for a while as you regain your strength and traction.  To be in one of the most ferociously competitive arenas around, though.  Oh my, I could/would not have done that.

It would be better not to look at other issues such as race and entitlement, etc.,  and approach this spontaneous combustion outburst as something that took over her natural system.  It was a confluence of a lot of bad stuff at that moment.

My idea could be accurate even if you do not want or like this explanation.

@golding76

She had the baby a year ago!   If she wasn't back to normal after a year, she should have never been cleared by her doctor to play again!

IMO, she shouldn't try to blame motherhood for her totally unprofessional behavior.    What a disgrace!

Serena is a role model for bad sportsmanship.

Oh my, Tinkrbl44.  This was my response and guess, not that of Serena Williams.  She may fully agree with you that her having had a child had nothing to do with this.

You are taking this to heart, aren't you?  Whew!

Maybe it's time she admits to herself that she's not as young as she used to be -- and there's a new kid in town ready to take over...

i am not saying she does or does not have postpartum depression because i am not a doctor and i am especially not HER doctor.

postpartum depression can last well over a year for a significant amount of women and can lead to chronic depression.

@sunshine45 She has been having these outbursts throughout her career.  Look at the 2009 US Open!  Not so different from yesterday.
