Isn't is odd how so many are so quick to drag her around yet those spoiled males who acted far worse get a pass.
I like Serena.
So women's "equality" is all about letting the gals behave as badly as the guys?
In a sense, yes, @vsm, although I don't call us "gals."
.
Then we have very different ideas about what women's empowerment means. By the way -- do you object to using the term "guys" too, or just "gals"?

I'm so sick of people making excuses for her behavior, she is a professional athlete and accountable for her words and actions.
She was disrespectful, rude, and should be ashamed of acting like a spoiled brat. Serena please retire so that we can watch talented players like Osanka who bring some class to the sport. Serena looked like a wild moose out there. Very unattractive.

Very ugly behavior, hate that all the young tennis players see this from players of either s e x . I hardly see how it empowers anybody to act the fool.
She was going to lose the match anyway.

It became a massive news story so she certainly must regret her actions. Luckily, she realized whatever happened should not detract from a clear cut victory.

Interesting that McEnroe, Connors and Nastase are continually held up as examples of bad sportsmanship in the game. Although I realize they still play matches today, their career highlights were over 40 years ago.....different era, different game. I cannot think of any male player in the last few decades that has exhibited continued issues as Serena has on the court.
Just to note, Osaka defeated Serena earlier this year in Miami.
Serena was fined $17,000 by the USTA for 3 violations during a match.
Hopefully, she will be remembered as the great player that she was/is and not the drama on the court.

I don't care if the Pope is ok with Serena Williams obnoxious behavior; I still think it was disgusting and I hope she's ashamed of herself.

I agree!! And I have heard twice today that her coach stated that he WAS coaching from the sidelines...
she just got caught!
Whether that rule should be changed or not, he still called it!!! Her behavior was more a telling sign about her than anything else...maybe time to retire....

She has been fined. Her coach admits he was coaching her, but says everyone does it and she didn't see him

Some of the posters here sound just as nasty, mean horrible and classless as Serena sounded and acted.

@cherry. I guess it was a "coincidence" (not!) that she won the next point after his coaching. Even one of the commentators commented on that fact.
