Truth.
She paved the way for many of these young ladies.
@sidsmom And who paved the way for her? Or did she pave it herself?
You apparently have a very short memory re: women's tennis.

Nope.
I just Googled ‘history of women’s tennis’...and this popped up.👇👇
Paved meaning...DEFINITELY the pay gaps...and not too many
minority tennis players on the circuit when they started.
Paved it herself? Yeah, kinda.
Plus, like Tiger & Lance (for example), Serena & Venus popularized
the sport...which translates to high viewing for the networks.
Those 2 sisters really made a sports which was known...
but really took it to astronomical heights. And like I said upthread,
Serena is an amazing athlete. Once Serena retires, all the
young women entering the circuit today should thank Serena/Venus
while they count their cash.

Had someone said Wintour was a curse I could have believed it.
Agree. So not an admirer of Wintour.

Serena had all she could handle with a player half her age. Her experience and skill allowed her to come from a deficit and win. I have still not figured out how or why Meghan and Serena became besties...can’t imagine two people with less in common,

Really? I doubt that you know either woman personally. You don't know anything at all about them personally other than what you read in the papers. It's no secret that they have been close friends for over 10 years. They met at some charity event, I believe the article said it was a celebrity volley ball game for charity. They hit it off immediately and it grew into a close friendship. Apparently, THEY thought they had things in common.

The Duchess of Sussex has nothing to do with any of it. A friend supporting of friend. We need more of that. Go Serena!
Hope you didn't put any money on that!
Congratulations to young Bianca!
Why do you have to be so snotty about it? Indeed Bianca played a better game and congratulations to her. No, I did not bet on this match I only said she would win after watching Serena play her first matches. She still is a great athlete and as far as people saying she should retire, that is up to her isn’t it?

Why why should she step away? Are you the tennis police?

Perhaps having a Duchess in the audience made Serena nervous. Those Brit taxpayers should be upset with the Duchess flying to the U.S. & Canada for non-monarchy events.
Are you certain that the Duchess used taxpayer money? She did work prior to her marriage and I expect earned pretty good money.
By all accounts she was most likely a multi millionaire before marrying Prince Harry. Facts matter?
I don't understand the misplaced concern for British taxpayers. And why it's only brought up in reference to Meghan. The Queen is supported by them too, very well. I believe the entire family is. Some of them do have paying jobs. Like Beatrice and Eugenie, if they still do.

Serena is a fantastic athlete, but everything comes to an end. She is not a young girl now, and if she isn't always the winnner
she is still a wonderful player.
She doesn't need to blame anything on anyone. We all know you aren't always going to be the top of the heap ,in life

I'm not sure 'quietly' is in the cards... Gracefully would be nice for a change... She's had a stellar career and is still a solid presence but there is something to be said for going out while it's still one's own choice... Those who choose to linger after the dance is over don't tend to command the respect they might have...
