Unfortunately my insistence is to educate...every Google search one conducts will reflect the social media angle. Can't make this any more simple. Either one gets it or they don't. I have the whole internet on my side, so....out.

I was trying to make light since some here were getting bent out of shape, but I guess this isn't the forum for this. Thought most here had a good sense of humor. (Slumps in chair) :/

You might want to rethink trying to educate others.

Here was your original definition:

"Definition of 'selfie' from Oxford Dictionary:

A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.

Sending pictures of one's self & texting to someone is not, by definition, a selfie."

The dictionary in question said "typically one taken" not "always taken".

Two totally different meanings, which apparently you did not realize.

what do you know -- Noel and I totally agree!!!!! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I know...so when you say something is "not" NSFQ, (not not-safe-for-Q) you're saying it actually is SFQ Smiley Wink But I meant I had never heard the NSFQ definition relating to...mastery. I don't think a selfie has to be posted on social media to qualify to be called that, sorry!

Shocking, isn't it, {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

But I'm not even going to try to explain that the use of a double negative is a positive {#emotions_dlg.scared}

You were correct about that, also. It isn't limited to that, not at all. It's used as a warning, that something you might open up (usually in email) wouldn't be safe for work if someone caught you. Which usually translates to something "naughty" would be on your screen.

You're right...I missed that. I was thinking no one would understand what NSFQ was & I missed the 'not' preface. Good catch. But unfortunately social media defines this, so....BTW be careful reading Urban Dictionary...its a hoot, but an eye opener!! Smiley Very Happy

That is definitely true about Urban Dictionary! Absolutely "NSFW" either haha!

A selfie is a self-portrait. It doesn't matter what you do with it after you take it. It's simply a self-portrait taken with your phone or camera at arm's length or in front of the mirror

Awww, thanks Smiley Happy I just meant I had never heard a definition of selfie that was related to...manual pleasure(?) and not pictures. I got the NSF(whatever) bit.

Hummm,...be careful when you quote Urban Dictionary.....there's another definition for a 'selfie', but it wouldn't be NSFQ. Here's another tongue-in-cheek definition:

<em>'Selfie': The taking of a picture of yourself and posting it on Facebook because you have extremely low self-esteem and you need people to comment to tell you how hot or pretty you look. In reality you just look desperate for attention. And no matter how attractive you might be, you still look pathetic. See also duck face/kissy face makes you look (silly).</em>

LOL, it "wouldn't" be NSFQ? Preeeeeetty sure you mean the opposite Smiley Very Happy It would be NSFQ or it wouldn't be SFQ...

Good catch. The old double negative trap {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Nope....the other Urban Dictionary definition would not be NSFQ....it refers to, er uh...a 'self pleasured act'. One who debates masterfully. Smiley Very Happy.

Which is why I didn't include it when I referenced it....duh....it also used some other nasty words and analogies. What's the diff? Standard dictionaries often have multiple entries under definition, and the one that fits is shared.
