Am I correct in what a selfie is? It is when you take a picture of you by yourself and post it. If there are 2 people in the picture it is not a selfie.

I could do that. It had a purpose, you wanted your friend to see how much you liked the jacket. I can't post a selfie on Facebook. Too shy I guess.

It's still a selfie is there is someone else in the photo, including you, and you took it.

I don't take them because I don't have a smartphone, but I love getting them. My daughter has a smartphone and an iPad and takes photos of me and her dad, which she shares with close friends and relatives. She takes tons of photos of the kitties. One of the kitties is quite famous because of her photos... seriously. Worldwide.

Definition of "selfie" from Oxford Dictionary:

A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.

Sending pictures of one's self & texting to someone is not, by definition, a selfie.

Texting is not social media. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, MySpace....those are example of social media. A telephone is not.
