Some advantages are you can double bag your items your way or even

bag your bread, eggs, any delicate foods even one thing to a bag and take

your time with them. Don't like cashiers that over stuff my bags or put soap

items in with food items, some don't use common sense.

Also sometimes I want to keep a plastic hanger or two for teen's clothing

and don't want to always have to ask for them, they give them always,

just do my order myself and do it my way.

Disadvantages I had are sometimes the register does not want to accept

the coupon even though I am purchasing the item. Sometimes the cashier

there is busy with other customers and their problems with the self check out.

The self check out lines at my local Kroger are always busy.  Always only 1 check out person line is ever available here too.  I've been using them more often, especially when I have just a couple of items.  The checkout people at my Kroger go so fast....zip, zip, zip.  I like to watch that the correct price(s) come up and that my digital coupons applied.  That's easier to do in self check out.

Most of the time I like self check-out.

I like to pack things well and not put 4 or 5 heavy things in one bag! Some checkers want to double bag 4 or 5 bottles together-no. That won't help. So it is nice to do it the way I want and not have to undo it when their idea of heavy is not mine.

On the other hand, when there is a thoughtful packer, I really appreciate it!

I love self checkout. I have done this for years. I've said it before, don't like too many people touching my stuff.

There is always someone standing by in case there is a problem.

Kroger has many cashier checkout stations there and one set of self check out on either side and I choose self check out everytime.

So far Publix is the only supermarket that does not have self checkout in my area.

I'm proud to say I've never used a self-checkout.  Actually, I haven't been in a store since before the pandemic started.  I get everything from Wal-Mart pick up or Amazon.  Works out just fine for me.

@cornicopia

Will make this a short one. I agree with you and am not fond of self checkout. Looking around our City that has a fairly low unemployment percentage, I see lots of businesses with BIG HELP WANTED signs in their windows/doors and so on.

Seems nowadays people just do not want to work. The more that becomes a problem, the more big companies will go to self serve in  everything they can.

I've seen it reported a couple of times (on tv expose shows) that the dirtiest part of a store is the self check out stations.

People ALWAYS wanted to go into the back storage area of our store.

When I worked retail taking inventory was brutal. The paperwork said that you should have 10 of a certain watch. And you would be lucky if you could find 5.

The store tolerated 5% "shrink". But we never were lucky enough to have only 5%.

Can't help but think that was one of the many reasons the store where I used to work went out of business.

@Janey2,

I've read this too and I always wear disposable gloves or use a clorox wipe. But I'm not so sure checkers who are so close to every customer and cash register are any better.😬

If you have them bring your items out to your car, you don't have to deal with checkout lines at all.
