Re: Selena Gomez: Kidney Transplant

She's been through so much, at such a young age. Beautiful young woman, inside and out. Role model.

I hope she's doing well. I did see a recent photo of her out in NYC carrying her new Coach bag in red. On a much lighter note, it is a beautiful bag. If I had the budget I'd buy it because I love it, and because of what she stands for. She perseveres.

I had cancer I cant give one the way I understand, but if I could I would give it to my kids or grandkids, no friends because what if I gave one to my friend and my kids or grandkids needed it then?

I was wondering how they do this. The info doesn't say she was ever on dialysis. The reason I wonder is, an acquantice of our families (a young lady) needs a kidney and is on dialysis and suffering for a long time. (her parents both had cancer so they cant give)

I thought dialysis comes first. I'm NOT insulting her, and do not mean that ugly I'm just wondering because I thought dialysis comes first..

I wish Selena well. She is so young. PS  I just saw pics of her in NYC (on the net), so she had to have gotten the kidney a litle while back.

If she's in kidney failure, and has a living donor, they'd rather transplant instead.

When you have a living donor, you forego waiting on a transplant list.

Best possible option out there.

Unfortunately, the young lady you mentioned, would need to wait on a donor list, if she doesn't know someone who's willing to donate.  Donor lists go by who is in the most trouble.

Different parts of the country have different protocol for transplants/transplanting.  Some parts of the country have different criteria for who is in the most trouble and also availability of organs.  People do move to an area that their chances are better of getting a transplant.

As a suggestion, she may contact churches (any denomination) and let them know she's in desparate need of a kidney, many people would be surprised how many hands go up to help.  You would be shocked.

I hope your friend looks in to other options, I've read of cases where people find donors thru friends of friends of friends on facebook.

Very touching story and I hope for both young ladies it all goes well now and into the long future ahead!

I have a very close friend who has Polycystic Kidney Disease.  She is down around 15% kidney function and they expect she will need a transplant....one of these days. Her oldest daughter is a good match and is planning on donating when time comes.

I don't know if I would...for my kids and husband yes for sure w/o question.

Forgot to add: my friend has told me that she never wants to go on dialysis as it is really hard on your heart and other organs....her doc's perfer a transplant to it for her.  She amazingly feels great/fine no issues whatsoever...had it since she was in her 20's....strange to me as you would thnk at 15% you'd have some kind of fatigue or something but she always tells me she feels great!

Selena made the cover of Time magazine's women who are changing the world.

She also has the cutest video on her Instagram of a meet and greet with a little girl fan. It will make you smile.

I used to drive for the American Red Cross medical transport.  We took clients to doctors visits, physical therapy, etc.

One woman who I had every week went in for dialysis 3 times a week.  She would just slump in the back seat and could barely get the seat belt on.  Not a word.  When I would go to pick her up afterwards, she was so full of life and bubbly and chatted away.  She worked full time and I don't know how she did it.
