Second wave this fall and winter " invitable"

[ Edited ]

We are going to welcome the heat as the it will make the COVID19 virus dormant.  But I'm very worried abut the fall and winter. According to  Dr. Fauci, the country's leading leading  epidemiologist, it will come back.  The average virus hangs around 18 months to 2 years.  There is no vaccine so far.  Even trials for vaccines last 2 years at least.

I am SO keeping as aware of this as I can.  I do not doubt this for one moment.

There's no evidence that heat and humidity "make the virus dormant". It's been quite aggressive in Florida and in countries like UAE. Plenty of heat in both locations. Heat has not banked its virulence.
But Fauci's point was that Covid19 will present a challenge when it is still present and the flu season starts in force. That is inevitable and doubly dangerous.

It's been in the 90's and over 100 here in Phoenix and our cases seem to keep going up. We've only had 1 day with no deaths. I'm not so sure this thing dies in the heat.

This sounds like my farmer grandfather's wisdom -- Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I'll add 'stay informed.'

Central Midwest -- Unbelievable I recently was the only person inside an all-service gas station wearing a mask and opening the door with a cleaning wipe. There's some 'I'm done with these restrictions' attitude in my area. So, I will protect meeself.

Ever hear the phrase "Why borrow trouble?"  There may very well be a second wave but no one knows for sure if there will be.  I can see being aware/prepared but why dwell on it/worry about it?

Covid19 is plenty rampant in Africa, South America and other "hot" areas besides the hot states mentioned here.

Wait and what happens , maybe people will consider getting flu shots more so than they do, can't see risking both illness.

Local TV news said progress is being made on a vaccine. Maybe that's wishful thinking on behalf of pharmaceutical labs. I agree that there will be a second wave, but I'm not convinced it will be as bad. With typical colds and flu, don't those who previously had it have some margin of immunity? That's what I heard but it might not pertain to this virulent virus.

Yep, there is hope!.....

As the world collectively holds its breath awaiting an effective vaccine against coronavirus, it appears so far that scientists at Oxford University have delivered the best potential candidate for success.

Scientists at that school’s Jenner Institute had a head start on this pandemic, because they had already created a vaccine for an earlier version of coronavirus that appeared last year. According to the New York Times, their new vaccine has so far proven effective on rhesus macaque monkeys, who were inoculated at a lab in Montana in May and stayed healthy for four weeks despite severe exposure to the virus.

By no means does that guarantee this vaccine will also work on humans, but those monkeys were as close a test subject as possible. The researchers hope to test it on more than 6,000 people by the end of May.
