Re: Second Pfizer vaccination scheduled for17 days after the first??

@Mmsfoxxie  I just had it a few hours ago, so nothing yet... Will see... No call yet for my mother... The woman that gave me the shot indicated some in her family had registered even before I did but had not heard... I think my county is a qwap-shoot, so to speak, with there being no transparent system to who gets called and when... Although I waited quite a while to be contacted, perhaps I was lucky... The process at the center I went to was somewhat cumbersome and required mobility over large spaces... Though they had the procedure down pat and I was in and out fairly quickly, I'm not sure my mom could manage in that setting... I wish to see a local pharmacy option open up for her... They also suggested it might be possible to have more of a reaction to the second shot... I guess time will tell...

Perfectly fine to take painkillers after

My instructions were not to take them unless your pain was unbearable because the pain killers before or after can defeat the immune effect of the drug.  I guess each health department has different instructions but that was mine.  It was stated if I took aspirin (or any anti-inflammatory drug as a routine for other conditions such as blood thinner or arthritic scheduled medication) to go ahead and take it but if not, to try not to take it.

Re: Second Pfizer vaccination scheduled for17 days after the first??

From the CDC (and everywhere else):

Helpful tips

Talk to your doctor about taking over-the-counter medicine, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, aspirin, or antihistamines, for any pain and discomfort you may experience after getting vaccinated.

You can take these medications to relieve post-vaccination side effects if you have no other medical reasons that prevent you from taking these medications normally.

It is not recommended you take these medicines before vaccination for the purpose of trying to prevent side effects.

Re: Second Pfizer vaccination scheduled for17 days after the first??

@stevieb , well let's hope mom gets a perfect connection soon.

I got my vaccination around 12:15, left the facility at 12:30.  Had no symptoms until around 5 pm, slight headache.  By 10 pm, it became a level 5.  At midnight, I had to take some ibuprofen.  You might be one of the lucky ones that get no side effects.  And yes, that second one is usually worse, I'm hearing.

@Nonametoday , so much is still unknown...I respect your privacy but am curious about which city or state issued your instructions. Most of the people I know hardly had any reaction, but I had a biggie! I have read that Tylenol is preferable to NSAIDs. But of course, what do I know!  I took a lot of Tylenol....the whole story remains to be written

Their instructions, like yours, were to take Tylenol if necessary but for a normal reaction, pain and fever that dissipated rapidly, not to take anything but to stay well hydrated.  If you had a reaction, with a lot of pain swelling, possibly high fever, nausea/vomiting, that is entirely different.  The instructions were completely to avoid any pain relievers that you could unless you were prescribed these as a routine med by your PCP or other physician and only to take Tylenol if you had a lot of pain and/or fever.  I don't have my instructiions before me but I think the fever (was above 100) or fever lasting more than 3-4 hours.  In the case of nausea/vomiting with something like Dramamine and fever higher than 100 that you cannot control with hydration to take Tylenol and call your physician or present to ER.

Yes I see that the CDC says to talk to your doctor about taking over the counter pain killers after vaccination.  In the next sentence it says, "You can take these medications to relieve post-vaccination side effects if you have no other medical reasons to prevent you from taking these medications normally."

Re: Second Pfizer vaccination scheduled for17 days after the first??

My first Pfizer was 3/3 and my second is scheduled for 3/31. I asked if that was too long for thé 3 week guideline and was told it's fine. I don't know if that's true and I may try to check on openings for Pfizer shots from March 24 to March 30. The sooner I'm fully vaccinated, the happier I'll be.
